The cotton that is sent through fans is then collected on a screed and faded through rollers until it is emerging as a continuous sheet in a soft and fleecy form which is known as a lap.

The process of scotching refers to the method of cleaning the cotton seeds and another form of impurities. The scorching machine or the tool works by the method of passing the cotton via a pair of rollers followed by the striking process to it with steel or iron bars called beaters or beaters bars. The beaters then quickly strike the cotton hardly and knock out the seeds from the cotton.
