Knowledge Based Questions
Candidate need to answer the following knowledge based questions:
- Briefly discuss at least five human resource management functions.
- Mention at least three HR related commonwealth legislations and briefly discuss about their usages.
- Briefly discuss how “Fair Work Ombudsman” benefit employee and employer.
- What are the common options for sourcing labour? Briefly discuss at least five of them.
- What are the impacts current ‘technology’ can have on your job roles as human resource manager? Means what are the benefit or disadvantages you may have using the current technology.
- What could be the components of a strategic plan? Why do you need strategic plan for human resources management?
- Is there any research involve in developing a human resources strategic plan? If so what are the internal company documents, you would like to check and what are the other external things you may research.
Assessment Task 2
Assessment description
In this assessment task, you (student) will be acting as an employee of Ozzy Paradise (simulated company), your position description is given bellow:
Position : HR Manager
Location : Corporate Office
Reports to : Director (HR) >> Your Trainer
Company Website : www.ozzyparadise.com.au
You as a HR Manager report to Director (HR) who asked you to research the planning requirement and to develop a Human Resource Strategic Plan for Adelaide Branch for 2017.
Therefore, your major job would be:
- Research for the planning requirement
- Develop a Human Resource Strategic Plan
Procedure
You will be developing a Human resources management planning report where you will have the following covered:
- Find and analyse the overall company strategic plans to determine human resource strategic direction, objectives and targets; and discuss what you havelearned, what the targets and goals are and how these will impact on the staffing.
- Research for additional environmental information and identify emerging practices or trends that may impact on Ozzy Paradise’s human resources management.Emerging practices or trends may include but not limited to: economic trends, labour market trends, new products orservices that may be introduced, new technologies, political or legislative changes etc. Briefly discuss your findings.
- Discuss recent and potential changes to the hotel and tourisms industry and legal requirements which relates to HR management.
- At this stage, you have some information about the company and the industry. Now you need to discuss with Hotel General Manager (Adelaide) to find out what are the preference they have for their branch and understand and agreewith their human resource philosophies, values and policies. Your trainer/assessor will act as Hotel General Manager or he will assign someone. You can do this part either by email or face to face meeting but you need to provide evidence of the discussion in the report, may be as appendix or reference. You may also prepare a sets of question to find their reference if you wish to.
- Write a Human Resources Strategic Plan for Adelaide branch. The plan should include but not limited to:
- Company overall strategic direction (as you find in step 1)
- Environmental Analysis or emerging practice or trade (as you find in step 2)
- Recent and potential changes (as you find in step 3)
- Summaries the labour/staff needs, skill requirement and sourcing option
- Technological impact and required technology
- Human resource objective and target
- Human resource costing with at least 2 sourcing options
- Risk management plan or contingency plan to support HR strategic plan
- Priorities and timeframe
- Implementation plan or schedule
- Any other HR related aspect if you feel necessary

- Human Resources Strategic Plan documentation with the above information
Assessment Task 3
Assessment description
In this assessment task, you (student) will be acting as an employee of Ozzy Paradise (simulated company) as you have been doing for the task 2, your position description is given bellow:
Position : HR Manager
Location : Corporate Office
Reports to : Director (HR) >> Your Trainer

In task 2 you have developed a Human Resource Strategic Plan for Adelaide Branch for 2017. Here in assessment task 3, you will be implementing and evaluating the plan.
Therefore, your major job would be:
- Confirming and monitoring that the plan is implemented
- Evaluating and reviewing performance against planned objectives
- Adaption of plan if circumstances change or making change proposal
Procedure
You have already developed a Human resources management plan, now you will make sure the implementation and evaluation process, as follows:

Develop a sets of questionnaire to ask Hotel General
Manager (Adelaide) or any representative he refer to. The
questionnaire should cover the key points from the plan
developed in task 2. It must include the following
question but not limited to:
- Whether the plan already been implemented or not?
- What are the obstacles they faced or facing while implementing the plan?
- Do they expect or want any plan change? If so, what are they?
- In the point 1, your trainer/assessor will act as Hotel General Manager or he will assign someone. You can send or give the questionnaire either by email or face to face meeting.
- Hotel General Manager (your trainer) will send the questionnaire back to you with the answer of questions you have asked.
- Now you have to review the answers and analyse what went wrong or right according to the plan. Write a letter to the Director (HR) means your trainer about your findings and recommendations.
