Executive summary
Introduction
providing different programme other than an internship to nurture college graduates. Some of them are management in training (MIT) program and graduation leadership programmer. These type of programme are specially created for graduates. Generally, this type of programme runs for more than a year. It bridges the gap between academic knowledge and real operation. Not only this, but it may also be a platform for getting employed in the same hotel. If not then, I might be good enough to get a job in another place. Hyatt Regency Kathmandu and Four Seasons Hotel Sydney are my first two places to undertake an internship or graduate programme. Following this, I would love to be a part of Intercontinental Hayman Island Resort, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah or The Star Sydney. (For detailed information, refer to Appendix A).
Generally, people think that there is no difference between ‘work' and ‘career'. However, work and job are a part of career According to Hoekstra 2011 (p.160) career is a collection of different job positions during working life. To be precise, one can work under many job titles and career is a cumulative sequence of all those jobs. For example, an individual has worked as a sous chef and executive chef in a different restaurant for 15 years and 10 years. Then he had a career in cooking despite working under different titles. One thing to note is that there is a boundaryless career for individuals (Sullivan and Arthur 2006, p.20). The main catalyst for this is globalization. And it has also caused people having multiple careers or career shift.
In conclusion, career management is one of the important tasks of an employee in which he tries to advance a career. Career success is conceived differently by people. One of the main things for career success is goal setting. An individual should set career goals which are smart, measurable, attainable, relevant and within the time limit.
