Introduction

The environment plays a huge role in determining and maintaining the health of the people living there. The factors influencing the health of the common people are called the social determinants of health (SDH). In this report five types of Social determinants of health are being are being used to analyze the health of the people of Darwin. Darwin is the capital of the Northern Territory of Australia, build beside the Timor Sea. The area of the city is around 3,163.8 km2. According to the 2016 census report the population of the area is about 145,916. The climatic condition of Darwin is mainly tropical, with both wet and dry seasons.

Physical environment

Darwin is a small city in the Northern territory and is a home to a number of natural habitats. 80% of the territory is covered with mangroves, swamps and mudflats (Lawless et al., 2018). The city is a popular spot with the tourists due to its abundant wildlife and tropical weather. The population is a mixture of people from various culture types. The lifestyle standard of the people of Darwin is quite high due to their overall high household income. The most common diseases found in the people of Darwin are Rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart diseases (Baker et al., 2018). The aboriginal people are most likely to be affected by this disease than the non-aboriginal people. The other diseases which are quiet common in this area are diabetes, ischaemic heart disease and nephrosis. Darwin has several outdoor recreational facilities such as green spaces, swimming lake, velodrome and so on (Saunders et al., 2017).

Conclusion

The report studies the five social parameters of determining the health of the people of Darwin. The population of Darwin is a mixed population with a diverse number of cultures coming together. The different parameters taken in this study are physical environment, social environment, literary environment, health resources and family and child development services. The people of Darwin mainly lead a balanced life, although the indigenous population has not received much opportunities to flourish till now. The common diseases amongst the population of Darwin are diabetes, rheumatic heart diseases and so on.
