Leaders designers who design the social architecture

Effects of leaders on learning Organisation

Leaders plays a major role in building the learning organization as they are the one who finds solution to the business problem, and they also devote the time to change (Johnson, 2002). Many researchers have identified that leadership is one of the most important factors, which influence the learning organization (Senge, 1990; Johnson, 1998; Prewitt,2003; Sadler, 2003), I believe that the leadership style used in traditional method was different than the leadership style which is used in this learning organization. I believe that learning organization cannot be possible without the leaders as they are the one who provide deep commitment, to build the skills which are very important for the learning organization (Watkins and Marsick, 1993), I believe that learning organization will have a distant vision until leaders give them shape. Johnson has examined the leadership in the context of leader’s role in learning, he identified the 3 main themes that are visionary, empowerment and leader’s role in learning as he believed that these skills are very crucial for the leaders. I believe that failure and success of the learning organization are dependent on leaders’ behaviour as they are the one who gives guidance to the others and they area also responsible for fostering the culture as they set the examples for others so that they can follow him and in the diverse culture where everyone have different notion of working in that case leaders play a vital role in keeping everything smooth(Prewitt, 2003). The role leaders require a willingness not for only to keep on learning but to be always open about it. Peter Senge who popularized the concept of learning organization suggest the role of the leaders are different form the leaders working in the traditional organizations , he believes that “leaders in learning organizations are responsible for building organizations where individuals continually expand their capabilities to understand complexity, clarify vision, and improve shared mental models that is they are responsible for learning”. According to me leaders plays an important role in creating the climate which is important for the learning organization, which will help the others and encourage them for learning which is very important for the organization it will help them in understanding the environment complexity and will also improve in solving the problems in more creative manner , which will encourage the follower in seeking new knowledge and the new ways of doing task. Senge further identified three leadership roles that are important for building a learning organization. “Leaders as designers” who design the social architecture, in which others operate, build a shared vision and foster an environment where learning can flourish. “Leaders as teachers” who conceptualize and articulate the reality so that followers perform at a higher level of performance. “Leaders as stewards” who develop their sense of purpose and set an example to the followers.

Learning organization promotes team and individual building which is very important for the

Learning organizations are environments promoting individual and team learning capabilities. Learning organization concepts, embraced by a growing number of organizations throughout the world, are strategies for competing in dynamic economic environments. Globally, leaders across varying industries continue to strive to build learning organizations that improve effectiveness and possess an ability to continuously evolve. Learning organizations depend on effective communication, a chief component of leadership influence. They also require thinking from as many perspectives as possible, in order to change and grow in response to anticipated and existing external pressures. These perspectives emerge from the variety of experiences coming from diverse individuals, and leaders must recognize these as critical resources in organizations’ ability to learn, manage change, and facilitate innovation. This chapter explores learning organization variables, arguing that diversity and leadership communication are important co-factors in successfully implementing learning organization principles leading to innovation.
