According to Ciohia (2013), around 50% of organizations worldwide use social media for internal communication. For social media to be considered effective and efficient, it must ensure the customization, integration, connectivity of each department of the organization. It is studied that social media helps shape a structural environment where communication is transparent, minimalistic, and direct without the social pressure or tension among the employees (Song et al., 2019).. Moreover, Social media can be a huge benefit to the organization as social media enhances the amount of information shared among the employees, and the employees tend to engage better with each other. This communication with social media is fast, effective, and direct without any miscommunication. As an employee, social media is a good opportunity to interact with other employees which help in maintain positive relations and enhance teamwork (Badea, 2014). Considering management, social media will enable the managers to get an insight into the problems faced by each employee and will be able to connect with each employee individually. Thus, the managers will be able to make appropriate decisions and will be able to assign a role more effectively. Social media also provides an effective platform for the employees to maintain a balance between their social life and corporate life, which results in overall motivation for the employees and enhancing the productivity of the employee. Social media also help in reducing stress among employees as the employee can easily reach out to other employees in case of any problems or issue. The managers will be able to evaluate the employees more easily and can reach out to them directly(Badea, 2014).. Since communication is the key when it comes to the success of the organization. Effective communication helps in reducing stress, create positive and healthy relations with peers, implement a strategy in a better way, promote working as a team, and have direct interaction with the supervisors. Thus, social media is a very effective tool that can be promoted as an effective means of communication (Cao et al., 2016). Since most of the employees might be using social media, so it will be very easy for them to adapt to this system of communication. Thus, employees will be able to interact better and engage more towards using communication as a tool to learn new skills or improve their skills (Song et al., 2019). Moreover, the purpose of Social Media is to connect people with common goals, interests, and visions, so that the group of employees who have similar interests can easily share their ideas, aspirations to be flexible and coordinated to complete the targets together. Furthermore, Social Media also offers employees to understand the personal information of colleagues such as personality, interests which is the basis for developing trus t(Cao et al., 2016)..
Advantages
One of the advantages of using Social Media in the workplace is to enhance employee productivity. With the help of various features of Social Media is instant, accurate message transmission, employees can illustrate, obtain, analyze and update information more easily, quickly, and effectively (Song et al., 2019). Therefore, it saves more time and helps in improving the efficiency of the employee's work performance. With that been said, Social Media is also the platform for the employees to connect, helping them understand each other better at work and enhance their bonding outside the workplace. It was reported that many organizations in China use their social media app WeChat for communication in the organization (Cao et al., 2016).. This helps in maintaining positive relations as well as maintenance work effectiveness. Another major advantage of using social media for communication is for the purpose of recruitment. As social media has the ability to share information with a large audience rapidly, and the advertising feature will allow the organization to easily reach out to their potential candidates. Taking the example of LinkedIn, the candidates are able to provide all their details of the platforms which makes it very easy for the organizations to scout for their potential candidates (Cao et al., 2016).
