Seeding sense inferiority and lack pride

Depression is a mental disorder that is often misunderstood due to its lack of apparent symptoms. While several physiological causes have been associated with depression, it is difficult to put a finger on one root cause. Other than internal factors, doctors and therapists believe that external factors such as socio-economic status or SES, childhood trauma, cultural, and environmental factors are equally responsible for the onset of depression. The SES of an individual is majorly determined by both their income and education. Low SES resulting from poor education and limited employment opportunities may downgrade one’s social class, seeding a sense of inferiority and lack of pride. On the other hand, the environment developed by certain cultures stipulates a set of rules to be followed. Countries that are culturally inclined require a specific way of social behavior exhibited by the people and rarely celebrate individualism. People living in those countries are less likely to express themselves or have a rooted fear of judgment. All of this can lead to less acceptance of people’s individualism by society ultimately rooting a loss of sense in life. Also in certain countries, pre-clinical depression is not considered to require medical assistance. This kind of ignorance can cause higher chances of prolonged depression in an individual. Additionally, the behavior of an individual matters a lot when it comes to how they perceive the world around them. Certain behavioral traits are quite pessimistic that are demotivating on their own. Prolonged exhibition of such behaviors has oftentimes been seen to make a person sad and gloomy. These kinds of behaviors may arise from deep-rooted childhood trauma.

When it comes to an individual’s behavior, nourishment and nurturing are two basic concepts that cannot be overlooked. It is noted that a person’s set of behavior not only depends on the kind of society or surrounding they belong to but also on the kind of nurturing they have received from their guardians. As discussed before, depression may be a result of pessimism which can lead to a huge sense of failure. It is seen that people who are more confident in themselves and persistently hardworking, are able to view their life in a much more enjoyable manner. How one views its own life majorly depends on the kind of nurturing received from parents. Self-behavioral aspects that lead to depression can be easily changed by better parenting and guidance that should include teachings like identification of problems and troubleshooting. Along with this, setting up attainable goals can turn out to be an effective way of viewing life. The accomplishment of goals, every day or every week, can increase one’s self-confidence and bring in more celebratory moments to enjoy life.
