Students in NLP 240 are required to write a scholarly paper on an issue or topic relating to geriatric or palliative care nursing. The scholarly paper should focus on a topic that has been covered within the curriculum for NLP 240.

Topics may include geriatric syndromes (falls, incontinence, cognitive decline, functional decline, frailty) or palliative care health challenges such as pain and symptom management.

Rubric for the Scholarly Paper (total 23 marks)

1.Topic: (5 marks)

2.Ideas & Evidence (10 marks)

•Is there a good balance between ideas and evidence?

•Is there evidence of reflective learning in the paper i.e. what did the student learn by completing the scholarly paper?

3.Conclusion: (3 marks)

•Does the introduction define the topic or issue and state a rationale for why the topic or issue is relevant to the nursing profession?

•Does the conclusion restate topic or summarize main points of paper?
