This happens when the switch switched include the voltage source

INTRODUCTION

The objective of this lab is to construct and analyze the current in an RL circuit. Our circuit will have a switch that will introduce a voltage to the circuit. The current will not flow at full value immediately due to the inductor generating an EMF. Over a period of time the current will get larger and the voltage will get exponentially smaller unit it hits zero. This happens when the switch is switched to include the voltage source. When the switch is reversed the current will get exponentially smaller until it reaches zero. The equation used to find the induced EMF is:

$\tau = \frac{L}{R}$ Resistance of resistor is R = 9.6Ω

τ = 22/(7.1+9.6) = .00132

CONCLUSION

In this lab, we found that our theoretical and experimental time constants were very close. We had about a 5.4% difference in our current loop calculations and a 1.4% difference with our solenoid calculations. We can see how the current changes over time in the circuit due to the induced emf and the added resistor also makes the time constant lower. This lab gave us a better understanding of RL circuits and how the current changes over time.
