Was created girolamo francesco maria mazzola
The painting that I chose is The Madonna With the Long Neck. It was created by Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, also known as Parmigianino in the year of 1535. It was painted in the church of Santa Maria dei Servi in Parma. The painting depicts a fair faced woman with a dainty like demeanor. She is holding a child with an elongated body and who is nude. As stated in the textbook, it appears as if she is aware of his fate in life, and stares at him with remedial grief. Her foot is also propped up on two pillows, but it looks as if she is uneasy. She is surrounded by several young attendants who have clustered around her and the child as if she is their deity. There is also a small male figure in the rear reading a scroll who we learn is Saint Jerome. The contrast between his size and the size of everyone else, makes them seem like gods and him a mere human. What I find interesting is during this time period religion moved to monotheism and female deities were no longer worshipped. However, this painting shines a light on the females and is dismissive of the adult male.
