This assignment is designed to assess learning outcomes:

1. Develop an understanding and knowledge of the various methods of social and legal research.

2. To undertake in-depth research of existing and up-to-date primary and secondary sources.

3. To write in a clear and coherent academic style and to construct logical arguments on the basis of extensive reading of primary and secondary sources.

Criteria for Assessment

Students will be assessed on both their knowledge and appreciation of relevant legal areas and their ability to employ relevant legal skills, in particular the display at an appropriate level of research skills, including the compilation of an appropriately detailed bibliography. Students should display a sound awareness of their chosen legal area, but are not expected to display an expert knowledge of the substantive law.

There will be a penalty of a deduction of 10% of the mark (after internal moderation) for work exceeding the word limit by 10% or more.

The word limit does not include footnotes and the Bibliography.

● All work submitted after the submission deadline without a valid and approved reason (see below) will be given a mark of zero.

Now, carry out the following tasks:

1. In no more than 500 words briefly explain what you understand from the question, to be asking, write a plan of how you would approach the essay with respect to answering the question, and write a brief summary of how you researched any relevant sources, explaining what types of sources were used and why specific sources were relevant to that title. You will be assessed on your ability to identify the question ,and the breadth and depth of your research and whether the materials are up to date, relevant and suitable for assessments at postgraduate level.

2. in no more than 1500 words, write the answer of your chosen title. You must write the answer displaying appropriate legal knowledge of the legal area and post graduate skills. In particular, you must use appropriate writing skills (including goodgrammar and sound analytical and critical skills) and employ appropriate research, referencing and citation skills. You must also compile as a bibliography a list of primary and secondary sources relevant to that title and its research, including cases, statutory and treaty sources, texts, journal and newspaper articles. The list should be full and presented as a bibliography, which should be properly cited and referenced. The bibliography does not count towards your word count.
