Extracts from University Regulations on Cheating, Plagiarism and Collusion

"The following broad types of offence can be identified and are provided as indicative examples.

(i)Cheating including taking unauthorised material into an examination; consulting unauthorised material outside the examination hall during the examination; obtaining an unseen examination paper in advance of the examination; copying from another examinee; using an unauthorised calculator during the examination or storing unauthorised material in the memory of a programmable calculator, which is taken into the examination; copying coursework.

(ii)Falsifying data in experimental results.

(iii)Personation, where a substitute takes an examination or test on behalf of the candidate.  Both candidate and substitute may be guilty of an offence under these Regulations.

(iv)Bribery or attempted bribery of a person thought to have some influence on the candidate's assessment.

(v)Collusion to present joint work as the work solely of one individual.

(vi)Plagiarisms, where the work or ideas of another are presented as the candidate's own.

(vii)Other conduct calculated to secure an advantage on assessment.

(viii) Assisting in any of the above.

Some notes on what this means for students:

1. Copying another student's work is an offence, whether from a copy on paper or from a computer file, and in whatever form the intellectual property being copied takes, including text, mathematical notation and computer programs.

2. Taking extracts from published sources without attribution is an offence.  To quote ideas, sometimes using extracts, is generally to be encouraged.  Quoting ideas is achieved by stating an author's argument and attributing it, perhaps by quoting, immediately in the text, his or her name and year of publication, e.g.  "   e = mc2 (Einstein 1905)".  A references section at the end of your work should then list all such references in alphabetical order of authors' surnames.  (There are variations on this referencing system, which your tutors may prefer you to use.)  If you wish to quote a paragraph or so from published work, then indent the quotation on both left and right margins, using an italic font where practicable, and introduce the quotation with an attribution.

The produce sold generally fall into the following categories:

The way the bulk orders are dealt with are:

1) A customer calls to make a bulk order.  The customer may want to have a quote from a number of different prices to compare prices and time frame

2) The staff member fills in a bulk order form (containing details and quantities of all products and timeframe required).

3) The manager then contacts the suppliers and describes the requirements and requests a quote

5) NOTE The bulk order has three states: Pending and Complete.  The status is pending when waiting for suppliers to respond and the status is complete when all suppliers have responded and the customer has information.

5) Once the suppliers have confirmed the price and timeframe the Manager decides which one to go with.  The manager then confirms the price and time frame to the customer and waits for the customer to confirm that the quote is acceptable.  

6) If they do not have a confirmation from the customer, staff chases the customer to complete the bulk orders quotes to see whether the customer wishes to go ahead.  If the customer goes ahead with the bulk order then on completion the customer pays the bulk order price to the Manager and the Manager then takes 10% of the total price and then forwards the rest of the payment to the Supplier.

7) The customer liaises directly with the supplier about the delivery

The shop sales system is:

1) The manager chooses the stock to sell in the shop   

2) A spreadsheet contains all of the stock for the specific categories

3) When a customer makes a purchase the sales person gives the customer a receipt and manually files a copy of the receipt.  

4) The spreadsheet is updated at the end of the day to reflect the day’s sales.  

5) Customers are usually asked if they wish to join the mailing list, if so they fill in a mailing list form.

Additionally, the manager stated that he wants to track which staff member was the initial contact for the customer requesting bulk order.
