Part 1: Develop a community service program relevant to your community and in discussion with your trainer.  The program will identify and provide suggestions to address issues in your community.  The following is to be considered: 

  1. Identify a problem or issue which is prevalent in your / the community.
  2. Describe the vision for the community on the identified problem
  3. State the mission (the what and why)
  4. State the objectives (how much of what you want to accomplish by when)
  5. Identify the strategies (how things will be accomplished)
  6. Indicate how you will use the strategic plan.

Part 2: Present your program to your peers. Choose the order by considering the following points.  Document the order you chose. 

  1. Which changes need to be completed before others can? Some changes may require other changes and relationships to be established.
  2. Which changes are easier or quicker to bring about? Could completing them give the organisation's membership a sense of success and provide the organisation with much needed media exposure?
  3. Which changes are the most important or key to the initiative's objectives?
  4. Which changes would inspire and encourage participants and build credibility within the community?
  5. Identify / consultation with services / networks to address needs of the community
  6. How are you including feedback received as part of your implementation process?

ASSESSMENT TASK 3 - WORK PLACEMENT

Task 3 -

Work Placement

You are required to undertake industry work placement: o    400 hours (in two blocks of 200 hours)  

 You must achieve a successful result in all the theoretical and practical skills assessments for allocated units of competency prior to commencing work placement.  

You will also be required to complete your:

o    National Police Clearance

o    Other state relevant clearance as per the SCEI industry partner requirements. Your trainer / work placement coordinator will inform you if additional clearances are needed.

The SCEI work placement coordinator or your trainer will arrange your work placement to ensure it is undertaken in a SCEI approved facility

You must complete all requirements of the Work Placement booklet

?

This assessment is graded as satisfactory or unsatisfactory.  An unsatisfactory result will mean an overall unit of competency outcome as not yet competent.

Due Date

The work placement booklet may including reflective journals that must be submitted to the trainer/assessor within five days of completion of the professional practice  

Prior to attending work placement, you will be issued with a work placement booklet.  This will outline:

  • the roles and responsibilities of you (the student), the SCEI workplace supervisor and host   organisation
  • the skills you will be observed and assessed performing o assessment tasks to complete prior to work placement and during work placement.

Please refer to the work placement book for assessment to be completed while on placement.

Write a report detailing and explaining how your workplace engages consumers and develops, implements, monitors and evaluates service programs. 

This report / essay should refer to placement experience and interaction in researching individual/group issues of a community and engaging with individuals and/or groups.

Your report should include:

  1. What are specific community needs and priorities for your workplace? How did you investigate this?
  2. What are the needs and priorities of stakeholders of your organisation? How did you investigate this?
  3. What are specific means of engagement with the community in your placement? Why and how were these selected?
  4. What are the details of any training, resource management and procedural systems for community engagement put in place in your workplace?
  5. Explain what work you perform in your placement (specifically concerning engaging consumers and developing service programs) and how a consistent standard is maintained.
  6. What barriers, issues or problems concerning consumer engagement are encountered in your workplace and how are they addressed?
  7. Explain how your work fits into supportive frameworks (such as legal frameworks) and which other organisations and programs are included.
  8. Explain how appropriate evaluation and monitoring of work is performed, including stakeholder engagement and feedback.
