These questions are based on the materials contained in the lecture notes, course notes and course material, and they are consistent with the learning outcomes of the Course. To achieve excellent marks, students need to demonstrate evidence of broader reading beyond the materials provided. It is expected that students will be able to clearly demonstrate critical analysis, good referencing approach and good academic essay writing skills. Students may also draw on any practical work experience and provide examples in their answers to demonstrate their understanding of the subject.

Examination Marking Criteria

All questions carry equal mark. The marking criteria to be used when marking the exam scripts is shown below:

• A (>70%) – excellent answer, not only showing knowledge given in the course materials, but also indicating additional reading and quality of arguments in response to the question with accurate referencing of all sources used.

• B (>60%) – good answer, similar to above in having good theoretical knowledge but limited critical analysis and referencing.

• C (>50%) – satisfactory answer, showing limited theoretical knowledge by replicating course notes; very limited critical analysis and referencing.

• D (>40%) – weak solution, demonstrating course notes understanding, with many gaps but no significant misunderstanding

• E (39 – 35%) – answer is of credit bearing level but has gaps of knowledge with some misunderstandings presented.

• F (<34%) – answers that are flawed and do not demonstrate a basic understanding

Discuss the reasons why both the demand and supply team are not satisfied with the performance of the construction industry and explain why the construction industry suffers from low profitability and limited innovation.
