ASSESSMENT ONE: EMPL702 SITE SPECIFIC SAFETY PLAN (SSSP)

The Site-Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) is a tool that documents how Management plans to control exposure to risk at a specific site. Through the SSSP process, the potential hazards associated with the scope of work are identified and safe work practices are defined to eliminate or control exposure to those hazards

This is an annotated version of a SSSP.  You may chose (or not) to include other elements.

• Organisation, site and activity description (3-4 paragraphs)

This description establishes the organisational context and specific worksite that is covered by the SSSP.   An Activity Description defines the scope of the work and other important information.

• Site Risk Assessment

Risk assessments are performed to identify and analyse worksite and job-specific risks. This includesthe type of workplace (e.g. a construction site or an office, or a vehicle). This assessment must include:

• Potential physical hazards

• Potential psychosocial hazards.  These should be given equal weighting.

• Hazard Control and Management

Some of the items you should consider:

o How (check list, etc.) and when inspections will be undertaken and by whom?

o How will the hazards be reported?

o How will the hazards be controlled/managed and who will be responsible?

• Site Safety Briefing 

o What do people visiting the organisation/worksite need to know about OHS?  This should be a short, structured briefing.

1.Training or Supervising Employees

What specific training do workers need on site?  Who needs supervision?

2. Worker Participation and Representation:

There should be opportunities for employees to be involved in safety procedures

3. Preparing for emergencies – first aid and rescue plans

4. Reporting Accidents and Incidents.
