Application of a ‘new’ Quality Sampling and Measurement Tool to a Wood Manufacturing Process

Practical Task

1. You will be allocated a process system to use for your selected Wood Manufacturing Company to gather data from - the Green Mill or the Remanufacturing Mill.

2. Measure the process capability of that system through each of the process stages. These could include capabilities such as; recoveryü, efficiencyü, sizeü, gradeü, strength, density, and moisture content. (Measure a minimum of 3.)

3. Document each attribute variance and the sampling frequency necessary to maintain integrity of process control. Estimate taken from your research that makes sense

4. Research new (new for your selected site) and existing forms of measurement and sampling. Show how the ‘new’ could be integrated within your selected wood manufacturing operation. E.g. automated scanning. E.g. automated scanning

5. Apply the ‘new’ or different form of measurement to a specific process on your site. Suggest what can be done

6. Evaluate what the results could or should be and write these up in a report. Include your comments about where you have done something similar OR will use a quality sampling and measuring system in future.
