The coursework is an essay in which you must apply the following three skills to demonstrate your understanding of the dynamics of responsible leadership in contemporary organisations.

Skill1: Proper selection of a case study

The case study must be a real-life situation that happened where responsible leadership was either present or lacking.

Skill 2: Rigour analysis of the case study

You are expected to critically analyse the case study, drawing on at least TWO leadership theories discussed in class.

Name dropping of theories without fully integrating and applying them in the analysis in a thoughtful way will not award a higher mark.

Skill 3: Reflection

You are expected to critically reflect on your own learning and development in relation to the module topics, and to identify areas in which you require further development.

The essay is not simply a report of what happened, but rather an analysis of the event from a responsible leadership perspective. Within your analysis you must clearly address the following questions:

• What were the key reasons for the occurrence of the events in this case? Please analyse individual, group and organisational factors within your explanation.
• If relevant, what were the internal and/or external factors that exacerbated the challenge? (for example, culture, discrimination, weak regulatory guidance, etc.).
• Based on the theories you selected, what has your analysis shown us about responsible leadership?
• What has changed, or should have changed but did not, in the conduct of the organisation and/or the leader because of the events described in this case?
• What could have been done to resolve the issues in this case more successfully?

You will excel in the essay by selecting an interesting (challenging) case, and by analysing it in a novel manner within the provided framework. You will also reflect deeply about your learning using theoretical constructs provided in class.
