Bus1003 Business Communication: Interpersonal Communication Assessment Answers

Interpersonal understanding in workplace is very important in these days of globalized world. Write an essay on how important interpersonal communication is in the modern workplace.

Answer:

Introduction:

Interpersonal communication is the promotion of the exchange of information between two or more people which promotes a healthy working environment. The workplace is a sensitive environment where people should know what is required of them and also have a platform to exchange ideas and strategies. It is at this point that the importance of interpersonal communication is seen. Smooth operations and good working relationships cannot be fostered in the absence of communication. The management needs to know what is taking place in an organization and at the same time, the workers need to hear from the management about the requirements that should be met. Interpersonal communication promotes a good working environment by fostering communication between the aedministration and the employees.

Interpersonal skills are the abilities that are possessed by a person, and they help him or her to communicate with others effectively. Interpersonal skills come in place to make sure that what has been contemplated by one leader or worker is passed to the other for the benefit of the organization (Petrovici and Dobrescu, 2014). Communication in the workplace is essential, and this is because people cannot work as a team if there is no communication. Communication takes place between two or more people, and that means that the interpersonal skills come in place to foster an effective communication process. Different positive effects come with the interpersonal communication in the workplace. The first importance is associated with the aspect of feedback. Managers are given the responsibility to make sure that an organization delivers in line with the goals of the company (Arnold, and Boggs, 2015). However, the managers are not on the ground, and therefore they do not have the details of what is happening at the lowest level of the organization. Interpersonal skills come in place to help the supervisors to engage the managers and share with them what is happening at the organization. The interpersonal communication skills also come into place to support the employees to communicate with the fellow employees (McCarthy, Trace, and O'Donovan, 2014). In the modern workplace, teamwork is fostered more than ever before, and that means that people must keep in touch. The interpersonal skills are important because they help the employees to communicate with the others effectively and that goes a long way in fostering a good working environment.

The relationship between the employees and the management is essential. When the relationship between the management and the employees is at its best, the company is likely to benefit, and this is because relationships at the workplace have a significant effect on the operations of the company. Interpersonal communication skills come in place to assist the employees and the management to communicate to promote a healthy and friendly working environment. Employees who do not have interpersonal communication skills are in most cases not able to converse with the superior employees. Therefore, in most cases, they are unable to convey a message that they are supposed to convey about a specific issue; as a result, it becomes a challenge for the employees to pass the message to the directed parties (Jeuring et al. 2015). However, when an employee has interpersonal communication skills, it becomes easier for the employee to communicate with the management. In this respect, it is evident that interpersonal communication skills are essential when it comes to making sure that communication at the organization is fostered. Interpersonal communication skills do affect not only the employees but also the management (Hargie, 2016). Some leaders might not have interpersonal communication skills, and that means that the leaders might not have what it takes to be effective communicators. A leader has no choice when it comes to communication, and he or she must be an excellent communicator to make sure that all operations are in line with the organizational goals (Wood, 2015). In this respect, it is evident that interpersonal communication skills come in handy to make sure that a leader is able to convey the intended message to the employees.

Conclusion

One of the essential aspects of promoting a good working environment is by employing interpersonal communication skills. The modern workplace demands that people should communicate and share ideas. Innovations cannot be made if people keep to themselves the ideas that can transform the organization. Therefore, it is evident that interpersonal communication skills come in hand to make sure that an organization fosters communication that helps in enhancing the excellent working relationship. Interpersonal communication skills work as a backbone that makes sure that the operations of a company are smooth and the relationship between the employees and the management is promoted.
