Answer:

In business, there are various factors that determine the success of a business. Some of these factors are undermined. People only think that finding a needy market and also eliminating competition is the only tool to ensure the business thrives well. There are other issues that may seem minor but are crucial. An example of these issues includes business ethics. In an organization, there is a way in which people conduct themselves inside the business and outside the business (Nilsson, Griggs & Visbeck, 2016). It is known as business ethics. They guide employees and employers on how to coordinate together so that teamwork can be achieved without straining. Sustainability is the act of making sure there is conservation due to the future considerations. It mostly talks about the resources which the business use and the environment. If business resources are used for the wrong purpose there will be limited or no resources in future and therefore the business will not thrive. The environment should also be conserved so that there can be a place in future which can facilitate the same business (Doan & McKie, 2017).

Individual Understanding of The Two Topics

Talking about business ethics, they include respect, loyalty, obedience, punctuality among other many factors (Allen et al. 2016). There are very many ethics that are there in business which are set and if anyone disobeys these rules, there are consequences. In a business, an ethic like respect is mandatory; the employees should respect their employers and vice versa. If there is no respect, there can be no work done since no one is listening to another person. Punctuality is all about making sure lateness is not and never tolerated. It’s about the commitment that the employees dedicate themselves to the business. It’s an ethic that helps people come to business as early as needed to make sure the business days operations start early and all goals of that day are met. In business there are secrets that should not go beyond the business walls due to confidentiality, that’s what is all about loyalty (Ferrell & Fraedrich, 2015). A business goal is to make sure it becomes the best in its services and at the same time make the required profit as soon as possible. If its secrets are given out, the competitors can get their idea and implement the ideas and all the work can be in vain. Those are just some of these ethics and as explained they are all very important to be ignored.

Sustainability in deep is the act of making sure there is a tomorrow of a certain business (Chatterjee & Das, 2016). There are two major factors in this scenario; they are the resources and environment conservation. The resources are most likely the raw materials used by a firm to produce finished products. These resources may be not there forever; they are exploited to a point they become limited in future. Therefore there is the need for making sure the resources are fully utilized before exploiting other resources. Environment conservation is crucial because it makes sure the environment will be favorable in future. There are issues like climatic change and global warming which affects the business negatively just because people before used to do business without giving the environmental conservation a priority (Tuleja, 2016).

Personal Experience

I was in hustle in a company that produced pesticides where I helped in the accounting office. The raw materials came from the farms in the interior. The raw material used to be brought to the plant for processing. In processing such raw materials, there are other unwanted products that are set to be disposed of. These products should be disposed of properly according to the rules but regulations but to minimize costs, the company used to dispose of them in natural habitats like rivers and unused lands. The business had ethics that were to be maintained in the business by all employees from the top management to the lower or operational employees. These ethics should be two way, up to down and down to up in terms of management structure (Quirke, 2017). In this organizations, an ethic like respect was only for the bottom-top approach. The management used to despise and misuse the employees at the low management. The respect was minimal or none. Punctuality was also for some parts of the employees. The top managers had the mandate to come to the workplace anytime they felt like but, in a case, where the people from the low levels were late even for valid reasons, there were consequences which were also unrealistic. Business ethics in this firm was for the operational employees at the low management level but was never experienced at the top management levels. The main purpose of the firm was to make sure they make the profits to their best without considering there is tomorrow and also not considering that there are employees whose concerns were more important than anything else (Popescu & Stoica, 2015).

My Perceptions

In that situation, I had no say over the issue since I was not even fully employed in the organization. What I saw has totally bad, human beings are the same no matter the rank. However, I had to take a stand and I knew I had to approach one of the top managers and say it since I had nothing to lose since my contract was over and it was not my dream job too. The managers said they would rectify the whole scenario, but to date, the situation is still the same. I am sure that this does not only place that experience the same problem. Very high percentage of business want to get excess profits with fewer inputs (Hák, Janoušková & Moldan, 2016). Therefore, they forget that there are more important things in the process. Environment conservation is a sacrifice that an organization has to take. The sacrifice requires some capital set aside which is now the problem. Most companies don’t want more reductions in their revenues, so these companies operate without considering the future. They ignore the future yet they know deep down in their heart that they are doing something that will affect the future.

Employers employee relationship is very important in a business. For a business to run properly, the employees need the motivation to work harder and at the same time provide high-quality services to the business client. But as explained in the above scenario, the top managers had no respect for the low-level employees. They tend to forget that once they were on the same level and they also deserved respect. The top managers demanded respect of them earning respect by also respecting the employees. I know it is not just in this situation, in various companies’ employers see themselves as very important and as they are in another level that the low-level employees can’t reach which is very wrong. People have where they perform best and its different from one person to another. Every person has a destiny; one can laugh and disrespect one person today and yet tomorrow the same person can be in a level which is higher. No one should despise a current person position because tomorrow is always unknown. These two topics are important in business. The future of the business is critical. One can get a profit margin today and the following days for a short period but another organization which makes sure that it considers the future will get a small margin today but the profit margin will increase gradually because organizations that never considered the future will end up failing and competition will be eliminated slowly.

Implications for the future of the business

Ignoring the business ethics has its implications. As stated earlier, the main objective of a company is to make a good profit as soon as possible (Le Blanc, 2015). To do so, employees are needed. That’s why there is the motivation when an evaluation is done. In this case, employees should be rewarded with reasonable awards to make sure they still go on with the same journey of excellence. Now in my case where the employees were despised, instead of employees thinking how they will make sure the company grows, they thought of the strategies of getting another job to do. With minimal supervision or no supervision, the employees never concentrated on their jobs allocated. Some used to run to a certain one-day job unnoticed and get the cash and later come back to work. All these are the consequences because the employers had no good intentions towards these workers. The major implications were that they were low-output of products that were to be sold in the market and also some of the finished products had some defects since the employee’s concentration and morale were at that time down.

Ignorance towards sustainability also has its consequences (Hänninen & Karjaluoto 2017). If the current resources are misused, they will get used up and there will be no or less raw materials in the future, what will the business do? Shutdown and think of other things which will be a loss to the business and its employees and the community in general. Aside from that, the climatic change is affecting the business due to the lack of environment conservation. If the firms do not take of the current environment, then the same environment in future will hinder the same company towards development (Kernbach, Eppler & Bresciani, 2015).

In conclusion, I believe in keeping business ethics real and making sure that sustainability is well considered off. For a business to get good profits, the two are very important and if not checked the firm will never achieve its goals. Firms believe taking some cash out to maintain the environment will reduce their profits but what they forget is that it will prepare for a better and good path in the future that will bring in more profits. I believe business is obsessed with money to the point of forgetting that the employees are to be respected and also well catered for. I would recommend firms to have a long-term plan which will define the future so that to make sure they follow the right path.
