The purpose of this white paper is to discuss the importance of communication and critical thinking for successful project development that 100% satisfy client’s requirements on time and within budget. Communication is a paramount skill for the successful development of a project since it works to ensure that the project members of the project teams are up-to-date and also for winning the support of primary shareholders (Hornstein, 2015, p.295). Therefore, an expansive communication plan is essential in aiding the project manager in getting project tasks under control.

As a result, the purpose of communication is to allow for the effective flow of information across all levels of a project to make sure the project gets completed on time and must satisfy the customer requirements. Similarly, the success of a project call for critical thinking among project managers (Ramazani, and Jergeas, 2015, p.47). Accordingly, critical thinking is all about creativity which does not have limitations to challenge the assumptions for accomplishing a project on time with an approximated profit. Research has shown that most of the successful projects come as a result of project managers being creative thinkers with special capacities to lead the project teams for a common goal.

Thus, this goal has to contribute the good of the entire organisation development by providing complete client satisfaction at the end of the project. Certainly, critical thinking includes logical reasoning supported by diverse reports. The collective information aids the project manager in reaching fast decisions based on the project team members.

One of the primary necessities of a project is the scope of work. As an engineering project manager, the scope of work plays a major role in defining all the work that will be involved by the project team. The only way for the project manager to be in a position comprehensively define all the necessary deliverables they have to work in close association with the end user of the product. Accordingly, this calls for interaction through communication so that to identify and determine the exact customer requirements.      

Goals

The goals of any project manager are to make sure that the project product gets accomplished before the due date, in accordance to the initial set budget and it must satisfy the customer needs (Ramazani, and Jergeas, 2015, p.43). Consequently, these goals can only be archived through effective communication amongst the project teams and project manager.  

Objectives

The objectives of any project have to be in line with the project goal always. Thus, some of these objectives include:

To determine the how the project’s resources should be allocated to deliver a successful project.

To estimate the time that will be sufficient for completing the project product.

To determine the mechanism that should be involved to deliver a project successfully.

Functionality

So that to be in a position to deliver a project product that must realise the client needs it demands that the project manager appreciate and embrace the need of observing effective communication as well as the support of creativity among the project teams. It is the responsibility of the project t manager to listen to all the opinions of the project team by making sure that everyone is heard to keep the project objectives in order.

Understanding timing and prioritisation.  According to Stark, the timing of communication is critical to the success of any project because project work is always tied to dependent tasks (2015, p.16). Project managers should ensure that project teams share important information to allow members to know what has been realized and what is supposed to be done next. The project manager should, therefore, communicate to the teams the right information at the right time to keep the project activities moving smoothly.       

Issues

Some of the probable issues in project management include a poor definition of project goals, improper communication, scope creep, and unrealistic deadlines only to mention a few.  

Assumptions

Assumptions are beliefs that project managers assume to be true in the future, and they are based on their experience, skills, knowledge, and information at hand (Carvalho, and Rabechini Junior, 2015, p.323). These assumptions are the projected events that are expected to happen in the life cycle of a project.

Constraints

Constraints are the restrictions imposed on a project like a schedule and a cost, which project managers are confined to work within (Heagney, 2016). All projects include constraints which are often defined at the start of the project.

Findings

The project can be feasible once the project manager is in the position to uphold communication effectively and allow creativity in the project course.

Recommendations

For further research about communication and critical thinking as a project manager, one should go in for benchmarking to some of the highly successful organisation to learn more about what and how these organisations do to become successful.
