As a Human Resources professional, you will influence change in the organization. One of the types of change that is experienced in the workplace is a legislative change. Prior to implementing change, it is important to think about the reaction of the workforce to change – positive and negative. In this assignment, you will research the amended change to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and then develop a strategy to launch the legislative change within a timely manner.

Directions:


Human Resources professionals influence and roll out legislative changes to the workplace. This assignment will provide you an opportunity to strategize for this type of change. Learners will research the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Alberta, which was updated as of June 2018. In particular, you will need to reference the amendment that references a health and safety program. In planning the launch of the legislative change, you should reflect on a workplace that you are familiar with.

You are working through this strategy from the Human Resources professional perspective as you launch the change. A required step in this launch is to think about the reaction of the legislative change to the workforce, both positive and negative. The last section of the assignment requires you to prepare a PowerPoint presentation to the senior leadership team highlighting the strategy for implementing this change.

Create a report and includes the following:

  1. Reflect on a new example of workplace change that you have experienced.

This must be a different example than you referenced in Assignment 1. For those of you who have not worked, you should draw on an example from your network of friends or family. This workplace change does not have to be related to Occupational Health and Safety, but is an opportunity for you to continue to reflect on how workplace changes impact the workforce:

  1. Classify the type of change.
  2. Describe how you positively responded to the change.
  3. Describe the resistance that you had to the change.
  4. Research the recently amended Occupational Health and Safety Act. In particular, refer to the Health and Safety program change:
    a. Describe the amendment.
    b. Explain two advantages and two disadvantages that this amended section will have on the workplace.

Workplaces are always evolving from time to time and gradually changing to create rooms for new establishments, ideas and even new expectations from the institutions. The type of change I experienced is that of change in working conditions and the requirements. This was clearly shown as I could work from home sometimes because the company had come up with flexible schedules which are now very common in many organizations. This practice improved my work since the flexible working schedules were accommodative and therefore it was appositive implementation. The resistance I had with the change was that sometimes I work from home, there are many challenges and distractions from things at home as compared to an office setup ("Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)," 2017).

The recently amended occupational health and safety act describe joint worksite health and safety committees who aid in hazard assessment in identifying potential hazard before working to identify and eliminate unsafe and unhealthy working conditions. This is followed by treatment after a report of injury and consultation. These are advantageous in protecting the health of workers and their availability to carry out work and reducing death cases in working environments. The disadvantages include more spending by the organization in implementing the strategies. This includes catering for the hospital bills for workers and this negatively affects income. Another disadvantage is that of quick adaptations of the employers to the new act as some employers may find it difficult to cope faster.

The estimated timeline for implementation of this program is a total of one year and the budget is fie hundred thousand US dollars. Implementing such a program should not be as quick because it entails important aspects of an organization. Since it involves many processes, the amount stated above is quite enough.

The human resources team in my organization will gain knowledge on the topic by knowing the importance of considering good working conditions by ensuring that the instruments they use are health-friendly and pose no hazardous effects and also ensuring that they get efficient medical checkups. The strategy of implementing the change is by educating the workers and creating awareness on the importance of that practice.
