Introduction

The essay revolves around the career-enhancing tactics or techniques in relation to advancing the career. Three tactics out of several numbers of techniques as mentioned by DuBrin (2015) have been chosen for this essay. These tactics are career goals, continuous learning and self-development, and documentation of accomplishments. These tactics or techniques have been chosen to discuss and identify how these help the learner in enhancing his career.

Career Goals

Carer goals are extremely important to be made before planning a career. There is hardly any person available in institutions and offices to help guide towards the right path. In such cases, if someone has no pre-determined career goals, the person would simply fell into trouble. In such a situation, it is recommended to take help from "Career Coach" who are specialized path-guiders (LinkedIn, 2018). Career coach has expertise in exploring the client to a wide range of opportunities matching to his or her personal and professional profile. This activity may be an easier task for many others; however, those who do not have any planned career goals and also lack the skills to construct any such, these people can be benefited from a career coach.

Career goals provide an ultimate target, which the individual try to attempt by working energetically towards it. A person who is dedicated towards the goal would find motivation into challenges and encouragement into opportunities (Creed & Hood, 2014). On the other hand, those with no career goals would perhaps find no clues on where to go, what to do and how. Career goals give the inspiration to further the areas of strengths and mitigate the weaknesses. Career goals need to be divided into two segments such as short-term and long-term goals. The long-term goal should be similar to the ambition in life. The short-term goal should be the process, techniques, and resources to follow to achieve the ambition (Creed & Hood, 2014).

Continuous Learning

A continuous learning and so the self-development is necessary to survive in the ever-increasing competition in the job market. Self-development is like the body that gets nourished from food. In a similar way, learning nourishes the self-development. Nonetheless, a lifelong learning is a quintessential part of every career and organization (Chadwick & Raver, 2015). A continuous learning is a way to be self-motivated towards attaining knowledge and thereby, competencies. It is one of the parts of a personal and professional development that helps to avoid the life from becoming stagnant (Chadwick & Raver, 2015).

Continuous learning can help in several ways in developing a good career. It helps to remain updated with the latest happening in the industry of choice. This is indeed an important feature to remain competitive. The level of expertise is never over for professionals. Those who are in the regular hunt to add more feathers to their expertise, they are most certain to take the advantage of market opportunities. A lifelong learning will also help in preparing for something that falls out of the scope. This helps to easily enter into a comfort zone. Profile gets better and better with a continuous learning. Hence, there will be more recommendations from colleagues, supervisors, and managers. A continuous learning adds to competency, which is necessary to boost with the confidence. It also helps to open up new ideas that are necessary to try out the different job option (LinkedIn, 2018).  

Documentation of Accomplishments

Documentation of accomplishments is one of the primary goals to advance professionally. Getting selected to lead a project or securing a promotion do not happen in one day but requires a documented approach. The documentation of achievements provides credibility to the accomplishments to validate and advance the career goals (LinkedIn, 2018). Documentation of achievements can boost the action towards the career in several ways. It helps to build up an attractive and stellar resume. Those who follow metrics, they are highly preferred by hiring managers and recruiters. It helps to answer effectively well to interview questions. Since efforts are given to document the accomplishments, it gives a good measurement of the self-capability. More importantly, it assists to dominate the performance review. During a performance review, it is essential to defend the scores to achieve high grades. The documentation help to effectively identify whether an individual is suitable for an internal hiring (LinkedIn, 2018).   

Conclusion

In summary, it can be said that techniques and tactics are important weapons to effectively head towards the ambition in life. The study finds that career-goals, continuous learning and self-development, and documentation of accomplishments are essentials for a measurable and robust career. These or more such tactics must be used for the career-advancement.
