The company has five stores in Melbourne as a result of continuous growth in business and profits. The company expects an expansion into other cities and states.

Problem statement

Film drifter company is experiencing a continuous growth in its business operations thus an increase in the amount of information handled by each store. Currently the business has no integrated system for use in managing the business.

The company is relying on manual methods of handling and storing data like use of spreadsheets thus there is a need for an integrated information system to help manage all the stores.

Proposed solution

To solve the problem experienced on a daily basis by the company in every store, the company has decided to develop an integrated information system which will be used in all the stores while using an a central database. The system will be developed as a web application

Proposed methodology

The proposed methodology to be used to develop the application is Agile Methodology.

Agile methodology was preferred to other traditional methods like the waterfall model because of its ability to develop and deliver a quality product by involving the customer and releasing the system in increments. This helps the development to improve on every increment deployed.

Agile will also help deal with any changes in requirements that might occur at any stage of the development of the project.

Expected system

The expected system will be developed by use of a framework.

The selected framework is Wordpress.

After developing the application will be deployed in a web server.

Future recommendations

To stay relevant in the market, Film drifter will have to add more features to the system. These features include adding more customer functionalities in the system. Film drifter should add features to enable the customer to check available movies, order the movies and pay for the movies using convenient payment methods like PayPal or visa. This will ensure that the customer does not have to physically go to the store.

Later on after the business is fully established, the business could start streaming services where instead of a customer getting a physical copy, all they need is a subscription and they can stream any movies depending on their subscriptions.

Conclusion

The Film drifter Integrated information system was a success because of the project principles followed while developing the project.

Use of Agile approach to develop the system ensured that the end product developed was of very good quality and highly satisfactory to the client.

Use of phased system change-over method to transition from the old manual systems to the new integrated information system will make the transition easy, non-costly and effective.

The new information system implemented by the Film Drifter company will be of a great benefit as it will help them improve their business processes by making it easy to perform various tasks and providing a better way of managing information.
