Answer:

The successful development and management or any project requires the understating of the clients requirements and conducting a detailed feasibility study before starting the project. The application and following of the appropriate plan for project management allowed overviewing the project modules and completing the project within the allocated time while ensuring quality of the process and the final product. Turner, (2014) has defined “project management plan” as a formal document having the details about the project control, monitoring and execution plan. The application of the project management plan helps in including methodological and systematic approach for resource identification, allocation and methodology for completing the project.

In this assignment, the projects for the development of a Global e-book marketplace have been selected. The Faado Engineers is currently run and managed by two technology manager. The website of the Faado Engineers has provided a potential platform of for the engineering students providing study notes and significant assistance in various engineering domain. Furthermore, the current website attracts more than seven million users with more than 3.2 million have registered to the website (Boyle, 2017). In addition to that, the application provided by the Faado engineers have more than four million world wide download generating more than thirty million session and page views of ninety million every year (Hill, 2013). “Two Mind Technology” currently manages all the operations and functionality in the website and applications. The products of the “Two Mind Technology” including the engineering related application and websites have able to target and attract millions of engineers all over the globe.

Moreover, the company has raised their interest in the development online e-book stores that will allow the engineers all over the globe to browse and purchase electronic version of academic books (Sanchez, 2015). The projects for the development of the global e-book store have been developed for selling of books. In addition to that, the project deals with the identification of the various requirements, modules and components of the global e-bookstore that needs to be implemented. Furthermore, various feasibility study and processes that needs to be implemented in the proposed website were evaluated in this project.

Detailed analysis of client’s requirements

The “Two Mind Technology” organization has provide some of the requirements that needs to be implemented in the requested e-bookstore system. According to Kerzner, (2013), the detailed analysis of the requirement of the client for the e-bookstore system helps in identifying the business needs and the breaking down the software into various discrete element. Furthermore, the requirement analysis helps in identifying the needs of “Two Mind Technology”, evaluate the e-bookstore feasibility and performing the technical and functional analysis. The various requirements identified for the development of the global e-book portal are define below:

To ensure DRM: The incorporation DRM or the digital right management provides methodical approach for ensuring the protection of copyright and digital media protection. For ensuring the client requirement, the system will include appropriate login and registration process. In the proposed system of e-book, only the registered user will be able to purchase e-books through that verifies email address and credit cards (Jiang, & Klein, 2014). Apart from that, “Two Mind Technology” will have the legal permission and authority of the various book to sell through their e-book system.

Payment and Billing system: The main objective of the project is to develop the e-book portal for selling of the electronics books over the internet. For including the payment and billing system, the developed system needs to have a payment gateway that will allow the customer to make payment through credit cards, debit cards and net banking (Reiss, 2013). In addition to that, the system needs to verify the customer detail for reducing the chance of frauds. The system will also include a billing system that will automatically calculate the net sum of selected items and assist the customer to the payment gateway.

Social Media Sharing: The incorporating the sharing of the book links on the social medial will allow the customer in enhancing the customer base and attack more customer to the e-book system for increasing the sales. Therefore, the developed e-book system needs

to have a social media sharing link that will allow the customer to share the link with their connected social media accounts including Twitter and Facebook.

Refunds and Support System: Due to probability of various issues in the online transaction process, the client have proposed the application of refund and support system for the customer. Therefore, for this requirement, the e-book system will have a refund claim option that will verify the claim and payment transaction before proceeding with the refund process (Williams et al., 2013). In addition to that, for the support within the system, the system will include an e-mail sending option and online chatting that will allow the customer to chat with the representative for obtaining information.

Apart from that, various functional requirements like login, registration, customer verification, book browsing, add books to shopping cart, deleting and adding books to cart, place order and searching option will also be included for ensuring the operational feasibility of the e-book system.

Stakeholder analysis

In the project for the development of the global e-book system, the stakeholders are the group of people who are directly or indirectly involved with the development of the project (Teller, & Kock, 2013).  The applications of the stakeholder analysis process helps in identification of the potential stakeholder and determine their roles and responsibility in the project. In addition to that, the impact of the stakeholder on the project has been evaluated for determining the project development process.

 Feasibility Study

According to Burke, (2013), the conducting a feasibility study allows in accessing the weakness and the strength of the proposed plan for the project. Furthermore, the feasibility study allowed in determining whether the undertaken project is work establishing. For the proposed global e-book system, the feasibility study was conducted base on the technical feasibility, market feasibility, operation feasibility and economic feasibility.

Technical Feasibility: The technical feasibility in a project ensures that the technical requirements identified for the development of the global e-book system can be implemented within the budget and schedule scope of the project. In this project after the analysis of the “Two Minds Technology” requirements it have been identified that the development of support system, social medial sharing, billing system, DRM solutions, book selection and book browsing can be efficiently implemented within the global e-book system. The application of the DRM system will allow in protecting the ownership of the books sold through the system.

Market Feasibility: The earlier “Faado Engineers” platform have successfully captured seven million unique users. Since “Two Minds Technology” aims to capture the market for their global e-book system through their brad image and existing website. The market recognition of “Two Technology Mind” would help in capture the local as well as global engineering students for the global e-book system. Therefore, the proposed e-book system will be able to attract large number base using the engineering services from the current website the applications. Therefore, proposed global e-book system have significant opportunity in the online market.

In addition to that, the customers will be able to browse through different books available at the e-book store. Therefore, all the operations proposed for the e-book system will increase the feasibility of the market feasibility and profitability.

Applicable methodologies, tools, standards, techniques

In the process of project management and the methodologies used defined the process and technique that will be followed for the development and completion of the undertaken project. Burke, (2013) have illustrate methodology as a process that are followed within the project for the employing, the plan, design and implementation of the undertaken project. Schwalbe, (2015) have characterized project for the development of the global e-book store as an application development project. Various past projects have employed the application of several methodologies for development of e-book store. Following are some of the methodologies used:

Agile Methodology: According to Verzuh, (2015), the application of the Agile Methodology provides conceptual framework for the development of software development and application based engineering projects. The utilization of the agile methodologies helps in minimizing the risks with the process of iteration that allows incremental development of design, coding, requirement analysis and planning process. Leach, (2014) showed that the iteration process followed in agile methodology often results in the introduction of new functionality at the end of each iteration process. Often the agile methodology, allows interaction of the customers, business analysis and product managers for including their feedback in the system development.

Scrum Methodology: Heagney, (2016) defined scum project management methodology as the improved process followed in agile methodology. Significant improvement in the productivity is the vital characteristics of scrum methodology. Mir, and Pinnington, (2014) have define gram of the process of prioritization backlog work that needs to be implemented during the project. Father more short duration and continuous meetings are used for eliminating the obstacle or issues during the development process. Chrome process encourages verbal communication and creative development while ensuring discipline during the project. Martinelli, and Milosevic, (2016) shoot that come cannot fully define focus on empirical problem in compared to the traditional waterfall models. Moreover, scrum focuses on improving the team involvement to enhance the system development along the iteration process.

Waterfall Methodology: The waterfall model is often referred to as the traditional system development methodology used. The waterfall model is strictly characterized by linear interrelated and fixed phases. Hwang, and Ng, (2013) showed that the waterfall model have distinct and fixed goals at the need of each phase and initiate the initiation of the corresponding next phase in the development process. The waterfall model is advantageous for managerial and departmental control with a tight deadline and schedule for completion of the project. But, the process is associated with distinct limitation that the revisions and changes are inevitable in the process when modifications are necessary for projects success.

RAD Methodology: Lock, (2014) showed that in the process of RAD (“rapid application development”) allowed speeding up the implementation and codding process when compared to the time taken by traditional coding languages including C++, Fortan or Pascal. The rad process significantly reduces the constriction ability in the system development. Pemsel, and Wiewiora, (2013) showed that the reduction of the construction phase have resulted in the practical implementation of evolutionary prototyping with high performance rate, limited risk and constraint flexibility. The RAD process in favorable in the in-house project development with limited application of the developed system. According to Lientz, and Rea, (2016), the time period in the RAD process is enhanced by prototyping, informal team communication, strict schedule and collaborative approach identification of the system requirements. Furthermore, most of the object oriented programming are fostered in the RAD methodology for reusing of the coding module and rapidly decreasing the development time for implementation.

XP Methodology: Marcelino-Sádaba, et al., (2014) showed that the application of the XP (Extreme Programming) methodology is useful and advantageous during unstable development environment. The flexibility in the implementation and modeling process is obtained from the XO methodology. The application of the XP methodology significantly reduces the cost in the requirements. Beringer, Jonas, and Kock, (2013) cited that XP follows four significant area of development that are broken into twelve practices. The four vital module includes programmer welfare, shared understanding, Continuous process and feedback. For the programmer welfare, a strict forty hour per week labor time is followed for the system development. In addition to that, for ensuring the shared understanding of the process, the XP methodology is accompanied with collective ownership of code, simple design, coding standard and system metaphor. Moreover, in the incremental process, the XP includes small, releases, design enhancement and continuous integration of the system. Lastly, the feedback process is implemented with pair programming, entire project team, planning phase and the development process entirely driven by test modules. The detailed interaction between the customers and developer s allowed the development team to understand the client requirement in ultimate details and implement the same for ensuring customer satisfaction. Furthermore, the collaborative approach during the development and implementation process allowed in integrating the joined knowledge and shared resources.

SDLC Methodology: Martinsuo, (2013) has define “system development life cycle” as the model using conceptual Framework for development of a system. The SDLC can be used from the feasibility study to the maintenance page for completing the application development. On the other hand Hornstein, (2015) argued that SDLC methodology is the combined process developed from joint application development, rapid application development, Spiral model, and traditional waterfall model. The SDLC methodology includes the system requirement, design the system plan, developing detailed plan for implementing the system based on the identified hardware, software, technical platform. In addition to that “system development life cycle” of staff maintenance and testing of the developed system after the system is deployed.

In the previous project for the development of the e-book store, the developed have used dot net framework and “Internet Information Service” (IIS) as the web server for implementing the online e-book store. The web server is used for accepting and returning the request from on the online HTTP response (Ramasesh, & Browning, 2014). On a contrary, another system relevance to the online book store have been developed using JSP (“JavaServer Pages”). The application of the JSP have enabled cross platform support of the webserver (Flyvbjerg, 2013). The store front end have been developed using HTML and CSS and in the backend, MySQL was used for storing the data.

Selection of appropriate methodology, tools and standards for the project with justifications

For the development of the global e-book store, the Agile methodology have been selected as the appropriate model for ensuring the proper management and implementation of the client’s requirements. The significant reason for choosing agile is the application of iteration in the development phase.

The use of the Agile Methodology in the e-book store development will allow the project completion in several incremental and iterative process. Through the process, the customer satisfaction and process adaptability will be achieved while ensuring the rapid development and delivery of the e-book system (Jiang, & Klein, 2014). Through the method-book project will be developed into smaller blocks that will be incremented in multiple iteration. The iteration process of the e-book deployment will include requirement analysis phase, introduction phase, project design and coding phase, acceptance testing and unit testing for ensuring the functional and technical efficiency of the developed system.

Furthermore the application of the agile methodology will enable tailoring of the last prototype for suiting the system in accordance with the client’s requirements. All the process in the project development is being repeated in the agile iteration for ensuring project efficiency and functionality (Williams et al., 2013). Through the application of the Agile Methodology, the project manager will be able to incorporate the customer collaboration process for considering the customer review and feedback of the project. The presentation of the prototype module in the project, helped the development team to represent the system better to the client in compared to the sole documentation. In addition to that, through the application of the Agile Methodology, the project manager is able to promote cross training and team work while ensuring realistic approach followed during the development phase.

The agile method will further allow the development team to breakdown the entire project into several unit module for allowing multiple developer to work simultaneously on the project. This often results in the reduced time required for implementation. The incorporation of feedback, modifications and errors during the middle of the development phase allowed in easy incorporation of new customer requirements (Ramasesh, & Browning, 2014). Moreover, since each iteration process in comprised with individual testing module, it helps the development team to implement regression testing when any new logic or function are implemented in the e-book system.

In addition to that, in this project the e-book store will be developed on .Net platform. The design of the online system will be developed based on the requirements and theory of cross-functional and dynamic web pages. This will allow the targeted customer to seamlessly access the e-book system from both the computer and mobile devices. Apart from that, MySQL will be used as the required database connected to the system.

Communication Management Plan

The development of an efficient communication plan allows in identification of the required channel for the sharing of information during the project. Furthermore the project communication plan provides solution for the collection, distribution, storage and retrieval of information communicated through the project. In this project, for the development of the “global eBook store” the communication plan provides a brief details about the information sharing and communication process followed by the significant stakeholders.

Change Management Plan

Every project is associated with various changes that needs to be incorporated within the project plan. The development of an effective change management plan allows the project manager and the other stakeholders to request and implement the change within the project. The plan for the management of required change within the development of the global e-book store have been determined based on five significant step defined in the section below:

Step 1: Identify the Change needs and requirements: In the first process of the change management, the significant project team members or the stakeholder needs to raise issue regarding the need for the change within the project. The stated stakeholder in the project needs to provide significant justification regarding the need for the change. The stakeholder provides and submits the essential information and documents to the project manager for requesting for the consideration of the change in the “global e-book store”.

Step 2: Evaluate the request received for the change: The project manager of the “Global e-book store” is responsible for the evaluation of the requested change as requested by the stakeholder. In case of small modification with no negative impact on the project schedule and budget, the change request is reviewed and approved by the project manager himself. If the change request required significant, modification or poses negative impact on the project, the project manager forward the request to the authorities of “Two Mind Technology”. Evaluating the changes, and its impact, the “Two Mind Technology” authority determines the feasibility of including the requested change within the project plan. If considered viable, the change is approved for the project.

Step 3: Obtain Approval for the change: As identified, the project manager directly approves the changes to be implemented in case of small changes required. After the analysis of the impact and benefits of the changes requested on the existing project plan, the “Two Mind Technology” provides final approvals for the changes requested for the development and implementation of the “global ebook store”.

Step 4: Start action for required change: The approval of the requested change is added in the change log for implementation. The project manager has the responsibility of informing the stakeholder raising the request for the change. In addition to that, the project manager revise the budget, schedule and project plan and verifies the same from the authorities of “Two Mind technology” before implementing the same.

Step 5: Change implementation: After the development of the revised plan for the “ebook implementation” the project manager initiate the process for implementing the requested change with the re-allocation of the resources. The change is continuously monitored for evaluating its impact on the e-book project.

Risks Management Plan

During the planning and development of the “Global EBook store” for “Two Mind technology” there exists various multi-dimensional risks that are both non-avoidable and avoidable in nature. The development of the appropriate risk management plan allows the project manager to identify the risk and its significant impact on the project success. Martinelli, and Milosevic, (2016) have demonstrated risks as any activity or factor posing negative impact in the developed budget, schedule and scope of the project. During the development of the “Global EBook Store” the risks have been divided into five major categories including deadline risks, quality risks, personnel risks, budget risks and socio-political risks.
