Introduction:

Technologies have emerged as the definitive force for the advancement in different industries. One of the technologies that is establishing its position in the market is the wearables technology. The deemed technology refers to the gadgets that are worn by the user and looks like an accessory. This technology includes fitness trackers smart watches and others. The discussed technology is connected with the network and enables sharing of data to and fro the device. It has proved its efficiency in assisting the users in managing their health along with ease in different operations. One of the industry that is crucial for the health of the users is the coal industry. The release of harmful gasses, low air, high temperature, suffocation, vibration, dust and other prominent threats are offered by the industry. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to detail the potential impact of the wearables on the coal industry.

Brainstorming:

The potential impact of the discussed technology on the industry has been discussed in the following statements and discussions:

  • Wearables have proved itself to be helpful in maintain the health while coal industry offers major threats to human health. Therefore, adoption of wearables in the coal industry will enable monitoring of the employee’ health and necessary actions can be taken based on the readings.
  • It will help the coal industry to mitigate the threat of health problems for its employee while in the process enhancing the productivity. Furthermore, sending of the notifications to the employee using the technology will also be simplified.
  • Integration of the technology with IoT (internet of things) will amplify the impact because it will help in real-time sharing of data. The real-time sharing will help in communicating and will also assist in avoiding any catastrophic health problem such as stroke, heart attacks and others by offering needed health instantly through continuous vital monitoring.

The selected impact is the benefits (health and communication) offered to the employee post adoption of the wearables technology.

The privacy laws for the collection and monitoring of data is strict in most of the countries. Hence, if the coal industry is monitoring the data of the employee in real-time it should be with their constraints or it will become a constraint of impact for the industry.

Market

Wearables technology is one of the disruptive technology and it will have to be modified according to the environment of the coal sites. Hence, making it difficult to find suitable wearables in the market and thus becoming a constraint for impact.

Architecture

As discussed above the wearables needs to support the coal sites which demands durability, environment resistance and similar other factors and in the process becoming constraint of impact.

The data collection or monitoring without the consent of the employee is a major ethical constraint that needs to be mitigated to enable the impact.

The ease of communication between the coal workers and the management has been discussed as part of the discussed section and accordingly the process model diagrams have been offered.

The supervisor will then check for data and if it is available with him/her, it will be shared or it will be requested from the management. The management will respond and share the data which will be accepted by the supervisor and depending upon the confidentiality of the data, it will be shared with the employee or some hints will be provided, thus completing the process.

Post identification of the data, the management will either reject the request or share the data with the employee who will then utilise it to complete the process.
