Assignment Task – Overall:
The objective of this assignment is for you to create a Leadership Portfolio. The purpose of this leadership portfolio is for you to reflect on your current journey and development of your leadership approaches, styles, experience and plans for growth and development as a leader.

What is a portfolio?
A portfolio is a personalised collection of materials (artefacts, images, documents, evidence etc.).Portfolios are used by many people in professions, crafts and career presentations. They are often identified with people in the arts (painting, fashion, photography, graphic design etc.) as a way of demonstrating development and achievement. Portfolios are now widely used in many other professional and expert fields – architecture, teaching, sports, research, executives etc.
A portfolio is:
• A reflection of you as a professional
• A record of your professional development
• Proof of performance on the job or in class
• What you have accomplished (i.e. tangible artefacts/evidence)
• Evidence of your learning new skills

What is the Value or Usefulness of a Leadership Portfolio?
Developing your own leadership portfolio supports reflective thinking about, valuing and developing your own leadership capabilities and contributions. In this course a portfolio articulates your own learning and learning plans which has been one aim of this course (Increase your own competencies and confidence in leadership). When promoting your competencies and contributions (applying for jobs, seeking to take on tasks and roles in organisations and teams etc.), a portfolio provides a focal point to help you demonstrate your leadership.

In this leadership portfolio assignment you fundamentally need to do three (3) things:
1. Create a portfolio (in a Word document) about leadership and you
2. Research and write three (3) short discussion documents on set topics and incorporate that work into your portfolio
3. Incorporate information, evidence and material around the set headings required in this portfolio that demonstrate your journey, current engagement and future plans for your leadership processes To achieve these main tasks some detail about how to go about this assignment is set out here: Your portfolio must include the following headings (you can add sub-headings of you want so as to set out your work etc.):
1. Cover page and index
2. Introduction
3. Leadership Statement or Philosophy
4. Leadership Style and Strategies
5. Leadership Competencies
6. Leadership Experiences
7. Working With and Leading Teams
8. Leadership Development
9. Summary Reflection

? Check you work through the SafeAssign text matching portals on the course site – it may be that your final leadership portfolio is a file type that cannot be submitted through the course site SafeAssign portal – so check parts of your work in Word document before you put that material into your portfolio
? A check list is attached and this has been prepared as a guide for you to reflect on the content and quality of your work – you don’t have to use it and you do not need to attach this checklist to you portfolio
? The marking criteria for the Leadership Portfolio assignment is found here You can progressively work on your leadership portfolio over the mid to later part of the course – as learning and information we cover in various modules of the course will support the preparation of your portfolio and also a number of the tutorials we will complete in this course will have direct relevance and connection to your portfolio development (e.g. leadership style, leadership evaluation and leadership development framework and plan). So ensure you use your progress and participation in the course across the trimester to help complete this portfolio assignment.

Answer:

The Introduction sets the scene or outline for everything that follows in your leadership portfolio. It should be brief, but include relevant information on you, your career, your goals, and the contents of the portfolio. Remember this is a portfolio on leadership and you and is not a resume or job application.3. Leadership Statement or Philosophy Your Leadership Statement or Philosophy should be a narrative about how you view leadership and the philosophies/values/principles that guide you. This statement would be the starting point for developing your leadership portfolio.

You might talk about how you evolved leadership philosophy; how it may have changed over time; any important leaders you identify with and why/how those observations have shaped your thinking and views. A GUIDE is attached here to help you reflect about a philosophy, understanding or approach to leadership that you personally identify with.  and Strategies In this course we have examined a number of different types and styles of leadership – in the Leadership Style and Strategies section you should set out your style of leadership. It might have changed over time etc. As a helpful prompt, you could consider being asked a question when applying for a job or wanting to be in a team or group –

“What is your leadership style and what can we expect from you in the way you go about leading?”. You MUST attach your essay/narrative (on motivation) in this section. 5. Leadership Competencies In Module 6 of our course we looked at competencies. In this Leadership Competencies section you might include information about your levels of experience and planned learning/development around problem solving skills; social judgement; and knowledge. You MUST attach your essay/narrative (on negotiation) in this section. 6. Leadership Experiences Under Leadership Experiences you have the opportunity to set our where you may have used your leadership skills. As a GUIDE you might use the attached suggestions as a format and ways of describing your experiences.

  1. Working With and Leading Teams Under Working With and Leading Teams you can describe your thoughts, experiences and plans about working and engaging with teams and groups to achieve your leadership goals. You MUST attach your essay/narrative (on team work) in this section. 8. Leadership Development In the Leadership Development section you would include information and thoughts about your plans for continued learning, development and growth in leadership. This might be about formal and informal learning; experiential learning;

inside and outside of the health system and health organisations and teams etc. and engaged in a number of case studies and activities during the course – some of these may provide useful material for inclusion in your portfolio? Remember you will have used a number of leadership assessment instruments (like LPC; LBDQ XII; LPI etc) You MUST attached your completed Leadership Self Assessment tool form in this section.

statement is just that. It should be a reflection over your entire leadership portfolio. You might want to set out points such as how your understandings of leadership have changed; how your understandings may change your career plans; the significant contributions you can make to the leadership processes in health and aged care etc. etc.

Appendices Attach any information as an appendix at the end and link your attachments to the body of your portfolio document that is refers to. In this table some items are marked as  – where you must complete that writing or evaluation task and include it in your portfolio and some marked as  – where a form or document has been provided to give you some guidance or ideas as a help to getting started and you don’t have to use it; include it etc. – items are suggestions. How you place materials  etc. to your portfolio document is your decision based on how you want your finished portfolio to be presented and seen. Format or Presentation for Your Portfolio The format or system that you create and present your Leadership Portfolio in is entirely yours to decide.
