MGMT20140 The Icebreaker Activity

On the 20th of June, following the exercise in the workshop (spotting the obvious with people at the beach), I tried to apply this by spotting the obvious in ‘real life’: I did some ‘people-watching’ while waiting for my train and attempted to find, rather than solve, problems. I reflected upon this again on the 27th of June.

Thoughts and Feelings DURING the activity:
During the workshop, I felt totally at ease doing this activity and I enjoyed it. I was, however, not good at it – kept looking for things I already knew. When I was at the station, I was a bit nervous as I didn’t want to appear to be staring and also because I thought I would never be able to find anything obvious. No confidence in myself at all. Saw a lot of people doing a lot of things and then decided to start making notes. I realised very quickly that I was able to spot a lot of obvious things as soon as I started to almost narrate in my head (and on paper) what I saw. I went for quantity, not
quality, and did not judge on myself, so I ended up with 1 page of A4 – that made me feel great and I realised that I was actually better at this than initially thought.

Thoughts and Feelings AFTER the activity:
Now that I had a few days to think about the experience, I am still surprised as to the level of ‘creativity’ I have demonstrated and the level of observation skills, as well as the fact that I didn’t get hung up on judging myself while making notes. I have spoken to a few colleagues and to my parents and they have told me that they were not actually surprised about this because they have always seen me as a rather observant and fair person. I did not know that!

ive group of four or five people. I participated in a group were simple cop-out was not allowed. The activity is to find ten things in common with other people on their table. The activity is for ten or fifteen minutes exercise for building a team of icebreaker.

I could able to know different peoples from different departments. It was helpful for me to build more effective teams. It was fun and I was laughing with the participants while breaking the ice in the training class at the beginning.

After the activity, it was so much fun to hear the answers from my colleagues of their favorite list. It has allowed me to share important things with the other participants. 

What can you learn from this activity?

 

From this activity I could learn to communicate with different people who are from different departments and get to know them very well. I could build a positive effect on the group members’ interaction.

What can you do to develop yourself further in the context of this activity?

 

I could effectively build a strong communication within the team. The activity was brainstorming. I could build a free flow of sharing, laughter and conversation. For making the activity a fun, audience were the best resource for me to make the icebreaker a part of fun for meeting, training or building an event for the team.
