Write a case study analysis based on two case studies that involve the use of Morgan's metaphors (or similar) as a tool to understand organizations. Review the Case Study Analysis procedure as presented in a document located in this week's reading resources (see Lessons). Obtain your case study articles from scholarly peer-reviewed journals in the APUS online library. Use case studies that were published within the last ten years. After a concise, but thorough and clear delineation and analysis of the cases, complete the paper with a summary of what you gleaned from using metaphors to understand management practice within organizations.

Use the following outline in your summary:

1. Identify the business problems of each of the cases; describe the metaphor(s) used.
2. Rank-order the critical issues stated in the cases
3. Evaluate the proposed solutions. Are the solutions valid? Why or why not? How/why did the use of metaphor(s) assist in the solution?
4. Submit recommendations you propose beyond what is already stated in the cases.
5. State how the solutions will be communicated in each case. Do you agree? Why or why not?

Organizational Management

The aim objective of any organization is to manage resources and maintain their growth of business. Maintaining profits means to have revenue that is ahead of the cost of current production. Several factors contribute to the running of a profitable organization.

The current essay portrays two cases studies that are based on two organizational metaphors given by Morgan. The case studies illustrate several problems and solutions that are to applied for the increase in the productivity of the organization.

Case Study 1

The first metaphor used for the organization as a machine is ubiquitous. It is heard in everyday lives that, “things are humming”, “on autopilot”, “re-engineering” and “I’m just a cog in the wheel”. Observing any organization as a machine shapes the perceptual concept, actions and expectations in an intense way. The ability for designing and operating machines are always taken for granted. The organization expects consistence performance, every part who is executing the function without many variations. Generally the machine do not participate, it is inanimate, changing only when its responsibility is taken up the engineers of the organization. The core value in the machine metaphor is control. The engineers of the organization are responsible for all the processes for designing, implementation, output and operation of the expected control (Antonakis, 2014).

The metaphorical approach is a problematic approach to analyze an organization. In reality, organizations are comprised of people and not parts of any machine. People are dynamic; the fluctuations of moods are emotions are not same in all situations, unlike any machine. The attention of human beings can be altered in every situation. The unexpected bad outcomes prompt a root of cause for the analysis of the organizational instinct to preserve self esteem and to avoid the blames that precedence for making things for betterment of the production.

Therefore, it can be summarized that organization as a machine metaphor can lead to observe the organizations as the material objects been acted by the employees and the leaders and managers can acts as the engineers. Most importantly the metaphor created a hypothetical situation which has no contact to reality and the method proposed cannot be used for establishing and running of any organization (Antonakis, 2014)  

Case Study 2

The second case study is based on the metaphor that describes Organization as a conversation. It has to be assumed that organization comes with an approach to converse with its members. At a particular point of time there is a sufficient convergence on the process of thinking. The organizational conversation leads to the understanding of the employees about the management and work culture of the organization. However, organizations do not function only on the communication based services. The efficiency of the employees is very important as well. There should be transparency in the relationship with the employers and the employees. The sharing of ideas and framework of the work processes brings lot of positive changes in the organization. However, this does not provide any reason to lower the production only based on communications done (Batra, 2016).

In the twenty first century business is very tricky. The economic and technological growths are able to give good levels of productivity but it is a sign of disaster for tomorrow. Therefore, there should be increase in the development of several strategies for the betterment in the scenario of the organization. A change in the management structure will automate several documentation processes that will be an important strategy for the IT sectors. Change in the management simplifies the workflow and raises the production level. Another solution for the betterment for any organization will be the better oversight of the management for the production level of the employees (Carlson, Cooper & Pilny, 2016). In addition, long term benefits are also to be taken into consideration. The management of the organization should be focused on the long-term benefits of the employees. The organization should focus on the higher productivity of the firm but the employees should not be exploited for that. Another aspect that should be taken into consideration is the attitude of the managers towards their co-workers. Rude behavior and lack of communication can lead to a loss in productivity in any organization.

The solutions that are proposed above will communicate for both the cases. Both the case studies show the initiation of the company towards a certain goal but lacks in forming a proper structure (Lyles, 2014). The main objective of any organization should be their employees. If their employees are safe and have the correct attitude towards their work then only the production rate of the organization will increase.

Therefore, the essay concludes that the metaphors used in both the case studies gave a wide perspective towards the organizational benefits and their issues.
