2. Identify and explain the strengths and weaknesses of Deloitte’s hiring program. In your answer discuss the key personality characteristics you think Deloitte is seeking. 
3. Using your understanding of motivation, job attitude or perception, provide recommendations to Deloitte’s management team about how to improve hiring practices.

Introduction

Human resource is referred to be as one of the most important and valuable asset of any organisation around the globe (Bratton & Gold, 2012). It has found that over the period of time there has occurred a great need of recruiting, training, managing and retaining such asset of the organisation. Therefore; for the same there are various ways through which companies are trying to manage people and especially retain them. Companies are especially focussing on the how to retain the current people because it saves a lot of costs for the organisation. The case study discusses about one of the “Big Four” Deloitte Company that demonstrates about the various ways through which they recruit and retain talented employees for their company (Armstrong & Taylor, 2014).

Solution to Question-1

The kind of employees which are required by Deloitte Company should possess good communication skills and are well verse in their verbal reasoning skills. An individual to be good in verbal communication has to possess extraversion personality traits. Sensing is another personality trait which is required because such individuals believe in the ideas which can be practically applied. Judging personality trait is important as such individuals respect rules, they follow instructions and formulate plans and always take the detailed information of what they are getting into. The reasons behind possessing of such personality traits is important because such kind of individuals will make a good combination who will be able to bring out good results for the company and make the fuller utilisation of the resources (Boxall & Purcell, 2011).

The Teach First program is about the young graduates who are hired from the top universities and in the program they are nurtured with challenges which give strict training, teacher certification and turning a flop project into a successful one. Such kind of training and development programs is liked by young individuals who have just completed their studies because they like to contribute to the social responsibility. Employers like one of the big four i.e. Deloitte enjoys hire participants from the Teach First Program because they are taken from the top universities and moreover they are the ones who are go through all the hardships of turning around a failed school into a successful one (Storey, 2007).

Attributions are the quality characteristics that are possessed by an individual. The major attributions that Deloitte as an employer wants to have in the participants of the Teach First Program are not only the technical skills but also the very important learning’s related to leadership, entrepreneurial skills and confident enough to take initiatives. All these attribute characteristics will help the employer to put less efforts in the training of employees rather focus on the how to polish their skills by given them the right kind of jobs. Employers are on to make such attributions because the need of today’s industry is just not the technical skills but the other interpersonal skills which helps a person to put in efforts on their own and play roles in the growth of the organisation. The ones who want to be successful in their own careers are seemed by Deloitte as the right kind of people because the ones who will be self-motivated will never take their jobs as burdensome activity. Deloitte conducts a verbal reasoning aptitude test which a major requirement for achieving success. The reason behind the verbal aptitude test is that the employer wants to ensure that they are not hiring just bean counters which are typical accountants and are only concerned about the expenses and budgets. Therefore; there is a lot more required than only the technical and bookish skills (Werner & DeSimone, 2011).

Personality and vocational tests are beneficial for the organisations around the world. There are some online free tests which can be conducted by the companies in order to get to know more about the personalities of their employees. The use of personality and interest tests will benefit the organisation because it detects the interpersonal characteristics of the employees that are required for particular job. For example – Deloitte being an accounting firm the employees are required to possess persistent quality because of which they will be able to reach out to results as accounting is a tedious job. Other benefit is that the personality tests provide the employer to know about the strengths and talents of the employees which will help in setting the right roles for the employees according to their talent and interests.

It is believed that the before hiring the new lot of employees it is very important to make the current employees satisfied. In order to do this the DCC program finds out the interests, talents and skills of the employees and fits them into the place where they can be utilised by the organisation. The DCC program uses number of assessment tools which will be of great help in considering the strengths, abilities and talents of the employees. The DCC programs is very helpful because the tests that are used under it that the MBTI model or any other type of personality tools because it appoints the right person at the right position and finally the attainment of the organisational goals. The program has also benefitted the company because huge costs are being saved which would be incurred by recruiting new employees. Therefore; retaining the current options is a beneficial option to work upon (Dowling, 2008).

From the answers of the above questions it can be concluded the importance of human resource and even more important is to manage them. All the five answers have discussed about the changes that takes place in the behaviours of people and the ways how company have to manage them. The most important is to retain the employees and fit them at their likeable positions which are in accordance to their skills and interests. Therefore, for the same the company has come up with DCC program which takes care of the current employees and makes sure that they are satisfied.
