Miscommunication is described as the circulation of irrelevant information that is communicated through a media platform in this article we will be mainly focused on TV.

Let’s take an example of any popular show of your interest, the office. In an episode where there is a lot of danger facing by the characters leads to a miscommunication which happened between the workers. This miscommunicated information led to catastrophic consequences.

The web series begins with an adventurous scene where there was a fire. The motto of the firing was to inform the other members of the office about how unorganized they were, which was attempted by showing a fire in the building. The fire caused a panic environment in the office where the workers started shouting and running. At first, the workers conquered with the overloaded messages. When the workers face n no. of messages, they faced the problem of not being able to circulate the messages forward. Which creates the problem amongst the workers of not being able to vacate the room safely because they were engaged in listening to the results and perform those things which they love to hear? If they would have listened to the Dwilight instructions properly they could have vacated the building safely. This process of hearing the instructions is called selective hearing which means listen to the important things only. The exclamation made by Michael of 'being trapped' created a panic among the workers.

Sharing personal feelings by an individual is a process that is carried out through interpersonal communication skills in two ways verbal and non-verbal. Verbal communication includes speaking and conveying messages and non-verbal communication is a type of communication where the person uses another mode of expression apart from talking for example; Eye movements, hand gestures, body postures, tone of voice, etc. Miscommunication which is observed in the example given is verbal type. Verbal communication helps in more understanding of any type of message whereas in non-verbal communication ambiguity may arise due to lack of understanding. The Dwilight in the episode which is in the frame conveyed the message using informative speech to explain safe exit from the building. The correct explanation of the step-by-step procedure towards the exit was explained by him for the safe exit from the building. Things that need to be ignored in the procedure were also explained. The correct and incorrect explanation of the steps and things. The process of communication here was to convey the correct method of evacuation from the building to ensure safety and health. Somewhere the non-verbal communication was also used to guide the directions which were done by hand movements and eye movements. To ensure the workers do not get more panic despite using verbal communication, non-verbal communication was used for guidance in the evacuation process. The fear and stress were seen through the eyes and mouth.

The other type of communication which was observed in this episode was an emotional type of communication where the entire crew gave their reaction and guidance through emotional communication. For example, the action taken was followed by the panicking attacks. Which resulted in a fight to move out of the fire. This type of action is called a physiological impression of the emotions which was expressed by the employees. At some point they came out with no thinking process by getting overwhelmed by the situation, this type of fear ultimately leads to a fearful situation with building stress and affecting their emotions. Though Dwilight asked them to use their surge, unfortunately, it failed. The more panic attacks led to serious conditions where one member was unable to breathe properly.

The strategies which can be adopted to lead effective communication rather than miscommunicating the information are

As we are well familiar with this process that communication is the best way of exchanging information within an organization among the people. If we follow some basic strategies it would help in misguiding and exchanging wrong information which is known as miscommunication. Making communication effective and purposeful the strategies are being adapted. It also helps in reducing the noise and filters created by others in the organization.

The strategies are as follows:

  1. Dwilight could have used the first strategy in a manner providing a printout of the information and circulate it to every work which would have made them clearer about the evacuation steps and process from the building.
  2. Listening actively and paying attention to someone who is speaking is the second strategy where it is important to take important points and note them down for future reference and use.
  3. Taking help from the non-verbal clues results in quicker actions with an effective result.
  1. Focus on necessary things
  2. Active listening
  3. Understand and seek help from the non-verbal clues

Conclusion

To conclude the information provided here we can say that Dwilight is a popular character in the episode in the mentioned TV show The Office. A great job was performed by the writers and directors of the web series. Miscommunication was led in the episode by Dwilight but it got managed with a good plan which helped workers in dealing with this situation and evacuating from the building safely.
