4. Analyze five (5) behaviors you believe would show unprofessional or immoral conduct for a teacher.

Introduction

Every individual who is working in an organization has some responsibilities and duties to perform to accomplish the goals and objectives of the organization. If the individual is executing all his or her duties and responsibilities with the honesty and maintaining the standard code of conduct while executing his or her duties and responsibilities, it would be termed as professional conduct (Brinkmaan et al., 2017). On the other hand, if the individual is not maintaining the standard code of conduct and not executing his or her duties and responsibilities with honesty, it would be termed as unprofessional conduct (Starr, 2015). Unprofessional conduct means one is doing injustice to his or her duties and responsibilities. He or she is dishonest and dishonored to his or her duties and responsibilities.

Answer1:

I think that the board of education violated the right to privacy of Pettit. Every individual has private as well as professional life. The private life of every individual should not interfere because every individual has his or her own choice and lifestyle (Thomas et al., 2015). It is not our duty to direct anyone that how he or she would live and behave in his private life. Yes, I agree with the point that the professional life of an individual should be according to the standard of the organization in which the individual is working. Mrs. Pettit is a teacher so; she needs to follow the professional code of conduct while she is in the organization or with the student because she is working to build the future of the nation (Zajda, 2015). But the board of education interfered in her private life and hence violated the right to privacy of Mrs. Pettit. The board of education has no right to interfere in her private life. What she is doing in her private life are her choice and lifestyle, and no one can interfere with that until and unless her private life is affecting her professional life.
No, they did not justify in firing her. Mrs. Pettit’s personal life never affected her professional life. Any of her action did not violate the rule and regulation of the organization. Apart from this, there was no strong evidence to show that Mrs. Pettit is unfit to continue teaching.

Answer2

No, I do not think that Mrs. Pettit behavior was unprofessional or immoral. As we have discussed in the first question that every individual has private as well as professional life and no one should interfere in the private life of any individual. Every individual should have right to privacy. What an individual is doing in his or her private life should be based on his or her choice. The people should be free to do whatever they want to do. Mrs. Pettit went to a private club, and none of her students was there. Due to this act, her professional life was not affected. She also did not lose the teaching time. She did not expose her act in a public place. So, her behavior cannot be termed as unprofessional or immoral.
As far as her ability to teach is concerned, she was very dedicated and focused teacher. She was working with the disabled children, which requires lots of patients as well as dedication. She was performing her duty with honesty. So, it is saying that she was not fit to teach is not right. She was fit to continue teaching.

Answer3

Teachers shape and build the future of the nation. They not only provide education to the students but also shape the attitudes, values, beliefs, and personality of the students. They influence the behavior of the students (Zajda, 2015). So, it is necessary for the teachers to demonstrate high moral standard inside the classroom as well as the outside the classroom. But it is not necessary for only those teachers whose performance is higher in the classroom. It is the responsibility of all the teachers to demonstrate the high moral standard inside as well as outside the classroom. But one thing should also be kept in mind that teachers also have their personal life, and there would be some ups and downs in their personal life. So, the people should not interfere in their personal life. What they are doing in their personal life and their act is not influencing their professional life they should be free to do whatever they are doing (Thomas et al., 2015). Therefore, if the teachers have high performance in the classroom, they should not be held to a higher moral standard outside the classroom. However, it is their duty to not to involve in any misconduct in professional life as well as in private life which has a direct impact on their professional life.

Answer 4

The following are the unprofessional and immoral behavior of a teacher according to my perspective. First, if a teacher is not treating the entire students equally and giving priority to some of the students or favoring some of the students is unprofessional and immoral conduct. A teacher must treat all the students equally because they influence the behavior of the students. Second, if a teacher is helping out the students in exams or providing reading materials to the students during the exam is also unprofessional and immoral conduct.  Third, showing disrespectful behavior in the professional life and also in private life which can directly impact the professional life is also unprofessional and immoral conduct. Fourth, if the teacher is discriminating among the students based on race, caste, religion, demographics, gender, and language it is also unprofessional and immoral conduct. Fifth, if the teacher is not fulfilling his responsibility with honesty, it is also unprofessional and immoral conduct.

Conclusion

Every individual irrespective of the profession has a professional and personal life. The choice and lifestyle of every individual could not be same and therefore, what one is doing in his or her private life should not be questioned until and unless his or her act is affecting directly his/her professional life. There should be right to privacy for all the individuals. In the same way, Mrs. Pettit should have right to privacy, and her personal life should not interfere. What she is doing in her personal life she should be allowed to do that until her teaching is getting affected. Her ability and fitness to teach should not judge by her personal life.
