The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Analysis

16 Download     📄   2 Pages / 264 Words

It is clear that the reader can draw the conclusion that Prufrock tries to find comfort inescaping reality because Prufrock goes to sea to seek attention and find peace. One importantdetail in the story is that Prufrock feels the need to run away from humanity to find connectionwith his own peace. The author writes, “We have lingered in the chambers of the sea” (Eliot973). The reason Prufrock says this is because in his fantasy he connects hell to sea water butin reality the sea water is real. Prufrock does this because as of the moment he lives through hell and once he’s at the sea to find peace, it puts him in the position of facing reality; at this point its life or death. Prufrock lowers his standards mentally and emotionally because he givesup on finding a mate. Prufrock states, “By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown”(Eliot973). An important detail to remember about Prufrock is he was never really noticed most of the time, so “sea-girls” that’s related to prostitutes was his second choice to find his connection with.It is clear that Prufrock has no other choice as a rich man to linger himself into “sea-girls”attention in order to be noticed and find someone to take in his attention. After reading “TheLove Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot it can be concluded that with Prufrock being so overwhelmed with living through hell trying to find a mate going to the sea was his only choice in result of finding peace in himself.
