Task 1: Estimating

Prepare an approximate elemental cost estimate for the construction of a new small workshop/warehouse using the following information:

  • Outline drawings As attached in Appendix 1
  • Specification Steel framed structure as per drawing attached in Appendix 1
  • Location Reading
  • Start Date Q2 2020
  • Floor Area (Gross) 200 m2

Your report should be presented in accordance with NRM1 guidance and you may use BCIS, SPONS or any other suitable database. Your report should include the following:

a) An elemental cost limit for proposed building construction works, including explanations of your reasoning.

b) A total development budget for the project, including its composition.

Task 2: Measurement

Measure the substructure for the concrete strip foundation up to and including the DPC level and the ground floor slab, in accordance to NRM2 and traditional measurement conventions. The work is to be presented on standard dimension paper. Your submission should comprise of the following items:

a) A complete taking-off list and query sheet, including dimension checks, coloured drawings, considerations and assumptions.

b) A complete and accurate setting down of dimensions (quantities) and descriptions of relevant building works using standard dimension paper.

 (2.4 + 2.4) X Cos 22.1(AD) + (2.4 + 2.4) X Cos 22.1(DH) + 2.4 X Tan 22.1(BC) + 2.4 X Tan 22.1 (GF) + 2.4 X Cos 39.1(CD) + 2.4 X Cos 39.1(GD) = 26.12m

Total no of fink roof truss in building = 6

Grand total of length of fink roof truss = 6 X 26.12 = 156.72m

Length of used in ridge board = 19m

Length of steel used in along the purlins = 2 X 19 = 38m

Area of 120 X 120 X 8 angle section = 120 X 8 + (120-8) X 8 = 1856 

= 1856 X

Total volume of steel = 1856 X X (156.72 + 19 + 38) = 0.3966 

Weight of steel = 0.3966 X 7800 Kg/ = 3 tons. (approx.)
