Time: The murder was reported at around 7 in the morning. The paramedics had already attended the crime scene by the time the Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) reached at around 7.20 am.

Location of the scene: University building, Room 106.

Scene Description

• Name of the victim: unknown
• Position of the victim: the victim was found lying on the floor beside the bed.
• Entry of the murdered: it was clear that the entry of the murderer was not forced. Therefore, it can be deduced that the murderer was not an unknown person to the victim and there are no signs of scuffle in the room or on the victim.
• Objects found

1. A passport, a mobile phone, two empty and one unsealed wine bottles, two wine glassesare found on the table.
2. A handcuffis found to be tied to one of the chairs. A blood stained shirt is found to be hanging on top of the other chair.
3. A men’s and a women’s wallet is found on top of the computer table.
4. A coinis seen to be lying just beside the women’s wallet.
5. A boltcan be seen lying beside the men’s wallet.
6. A torn boarding passof a plane ticket and a road map.
7. The drawers of the dresser are found to be open.
8. A knifeis found next to the bed where the victim is also found lying.
9. A blood stained cloth is discovered lying next to the victim.
10. Hair found on the sofa.

• Potential murder weapon: The knife found lying beside the bed is supposed to be the potential murder weapon.

Role as Forensic Investigator

• Samples collected: a wide range of physical evidence has been collected from the crime scene, which can be deemed probative for further investigation and analysis.

1. Biological evidences: blood sample collected from the shirt and the cloth, sent for DNA detection.
2. Latent print evidence: the coin, the bolt, the wine bottles, the glasses, the wallets and the knife has been sent for finger print detection. Footprint samples are collected from the carpet.
3. Trace evidence: hair fiber samples sent for DNA recognition.
4. Digital evidence: the mobile phone found from the scene is sent for data and call log recovery.
5. Drug evidence: the wine bottles are sent for detecting the presence of any foreign particle or irregular chemical composition.

• Several Photographs and paper documentsare collected which are sent for thorough review of the investigation team.
• The areas of likely contact of the victim and the murdered is swabbed thoroughly for collecting low-level DNA traces.
• Communication with fellow colleagues at the crime scene to understand and assess the scene better and to consider the different perspectives that would help to draw a conclusion.

Actions taken

The scene has been guarded, secured and thoroughly assessed as quickly as possible to prevent the contamination and tampering of the evidences. The significant area of the crime scene has been identified and marked. The physical evidences has been collected, preserved, packaged and sent to the forensic laboratory for further investigation. Detailed report and log of the found objects has been done for data tracking. The physical evidences has been sent to the forensic laboratory. A primary survey has been conducted to find out the potentially significant evidences. The entire crime has been documented and the situations has been recorded minutely.

The analysis of the objects found and the samples collected would be incorporated in the final report of the Forensic Investigator, which would be complete after assessing the DNA report.
