Achieving Your Short and Long Term goals

  100 Download     📄   3 Pages / 640 Words

Week 1: Individual Work 1

  1. What steps does your textbook’s author recommend for achieving your short term goals?

The steps that our textbook’s author recommends for achieving short term goals are (1) “Identify the goals. (2) Devise effective plans to achieve your goals. When you identify your short term goals, rank your goals in order, and then select which one is the most important. After ranking your goals, write down the steps in the way you think they should be taken. Think about each step and how long it will take to complete each step. Plan your steps in your daily or weekly schedule” (Chaffee, 2012/2009, pgs. 12-13).

  1. What steps does your textbook’s author recommend for achieving your long term goals?

The steps our textbook’s author recommends for achieving long term goals are (1) “Describe as specifically as possible an important longer-term goal that you want to achieve in your life. (2) Explain the reasons that led you to select the goal that you did and why you believe that your goal makes sense. (3) Identify both the major and minor steps you will have to take to achieve your goal. List your steps in the order in which they need to be taken and indicate how much time you think each step will take. Make your responses as specific and precise as possible. (4) Identify some of the sacrifices that you may have to make in the present in order to achieve your future goal” (Chaffee, 2012/2009, pg. 14).

  1. Describe an important decision in your academic or personal life that you will have to make in the near future.

An important decision in my personal life that I will have to make in the near future is once I graduate from Everest University, I may have to move to a different city just to be able to have a career in Accounting. As part of our class discussion in my Career Skills online class, we searched employment trends and employment wages for our desired field of work. When I searched for Accounting, the number of jobs in my city was not that many. I am going to have to make a decision whether or not to move to get better career opportunities. I must decide if moving will be better for my family.

  1. Explain the reasons for your decision and conclude with your best possible choice (reference the five step decision making approach described in Chapter 1, pages 21-24).

The reasons for my decision is to determine if moving is the best option for my family and I will be better or will it not be the best for us. After reading in our textbook about the five steps to make a decision, my best possible choice would go with step number 3. I need to “gather all relevant information and evaluate the pros and cons of each possible choice” (Chaffee, 2012/2009, pg. 22). I would need to decide whether or not moving is the best option. I would have to make a decision if moving will help me to look for better career opportunities. Would moving affect my family by changing schools? I would have to get information on different schools so that my kids will still get a good education. I would also have to take in consideration where we want to move and is the neighborhood safe for me and my family. I will just have to make a list of the pros and cons of moving and decide what will be best for me and my family.
