Assessment overview

The objective of this assessment is to assess your knowledge as would be required to install and manage network protocols.

Assessment Event number

1 of 2

Instructions for this assessment

This is a written assessment and it will be assessing you on your knowledge of the unit.

This assessment is in four parts:

1. Network protocol chart

2. Design an IP addressing scheme

3. Fill in the blanks

4. Short answer

This assessment is supported by:

· Assessment feedback

Submission instructions

When you have completed your assessment, submit it online for marking by your assessor.

It is important that you keep a copy of all electronic and hardcopy assessments submitted to TAFE and complete the assessment declaration when submitting the assessment.

What do I need to do to achieve a satisfactory result?

To achieve a satisfactory result for this assessment all questions must be answered correctly.

What do I need to provide?

· Computer, internet and login details

· USB drive or other storage method with enough free space to save work to.

What the assessor will provide?

Access to the Learning Management System.

Due date and time allowed

Indicative time to complete assessment:

· 1.5 hours (90 minutes)

Supervision

Your assessor may ask for additional evidence to verify the authenticity of your submission and confirm that the assessment task was completed by you.

Reasonable adjustment

If you have a permanent or temporary condition that may prevent you from successfully completing the assessment event(s) in the way described, you should talk to your assessor about ‘reasonable adjustment’. This is the adjustment of the way you are assessed to take into account your condition, which must be approved BEFORE you attempt the assessment.

Assessment feedback, review or appeals

Appeals are addressed in accordance with Every Student’s Guide to Assessment in TAFE NSW.

Part 1: Network protocol chart (OSI and TCP/IP model)

Fill out the following OSI and TCP/IP model network protocol chart with the correct information. You must fill all the blank cells in columns A, B, C, D. Use the following terms to complete column D at the correct OSI layers. (Telnet, HTTP, FTP, IPv6, SMTP, TCP, POP3, UDP, DNS, DHCP, IPv4, TIA/EIA (RJ-45/T568), 802.11, Ethernet IEEE802.3, SSH).

Part 2: Design an IP addressing scheme

Scenario continued: You are given an IPv4 network address 192.168.100.0/24 to be used when designing the IP addressing scheme. ABC Company requires four subnetworks to facilitate their department functions and management of the network.

  1. Identify the following information based on the given scenario.

Address class

Default subnet mask

Total number of subnets

Number of bits borrowed

Custom subnet mask

Number of usable host addresses per subnet

  1. Design a network addressing scheme that allows for four Record the following information given below for each subnet.

Part 4: Short answer

  1. Summarise the features of the two major transmission control protocols and give an example of a use scenario for each.
    1. UDP
  1. TCP
  1. Summarise the key features of the two major IP protocols.
    1. IPv4
  1. IPv6
  1. Network protocols IPv4 and IPv6 would need to transcend (go beyond/scale with) organisational size and network complexity.Explain how you would allow for future growth of the organisation’s network and its complexity when designing IP addressing schemes.
